Anybody out there shot a bobtail and disliked it?

I'm thinking of bobtailing my 1911. I like how it looks and have heard good things about them, but I don't know anybody that has one for me to try out. Everyone I know with 1911's just have the standard grip frame.

To me, it looks like it would alter the grip angle slightly.

Anybody not like them from a shooting perspective? I know some people don't like how they look. I'm just looking for performance comments here.

Thank you

Just feels weird. I have big hands so I want a full grip. I wouldn't do it to any 1911 I liked.

I have shot them, owned a couple, but would not pay money or spend time to alter an existing pistol.

Personally I hate a bobtail 1911. It not only feels like hell in my hand but I don't like their appearance either. For my hands I have to go exactly the other way by adding an S&A flat mainspring housing. I need that slight extra length at the heel of the gun in order to shoot them best.

I even asked Dan Wesson to make me a Custom Non bobtailed stainless 10MM Commander.

If someone just has to butcher up a firearm, pick something other than a classic 1911 design.

Agreed ... Chop up a Glock or SR9 or P95 or something if you insist on ruining the looks of a firearm. :D

Don't let them, sway you. If you want to do it, do it. These arent' priceless antiques, they are just tools. Make it into what you want it to be. Don't forget to post pictures if you do it, Ed

I don't like them, but I will admit that on an officer's size frame, the slightly rounded bottom rear corner from Terry Tussey (others do it now, but he's the first one I saw) feels nice to the heel of my hand.

I've only shot one, a Kimber Custom Carry II commander size. With the alloy frame it was a recoiling SOB. I didn't like it at all. My Ruger CMD is much nicer to shoot. I kind of like the look of it and thought about doing it to my CMD but shooting the Kimber changed my mind.

I like them, they feel better in my hand. In fact, I just bought a Kimber Super Carry Pro last week. It's my favorite 1911 so far. I wanted one since the first time I saw one... so I fixed that. :D

I have decided that I will do a bobtail. But it will probably be on a commander. So the search begins.

I'm going to hunt around for a while and see if I can locate one in a shop. So far, I've had no luck on it up here. Appreciate the input.
