I have had a copy of Foxfire 1 around the house for years, but only lately have started reading the entire series. Just a wealth of old time knowledge there. So far my favorites are 4 because of the sections on old time logging and spring houses, and 5 with blacksmithing and gun making. But all of them make for terrific reading, and taken together are just a national treasure of appalachian lore and pioneer craft.

I used to have the entire set, but when my basement flooded they got ruined.... :(

Hi,

Never really read the books, but my brother played in a bluegrass band called Foxfire, and they were pretty good, so I guess I was a fan in an odd way... :)

I too have the set. I got hooked on them decades ago.

Here's one for you.
Book #5,, with the info on gunbuilding,, especially the Flintlocks. The gunmaker,, Jim Chambers,,, in that book,,, well, he's family. My son married his daughter. Chambers Flintlocks,,, look them up! Thanksgiving & Christmas is a HOOT with all of us gun folks together.

Love the series. Asked for and received the volume with making a still and correctly using it. Good information to have. Don.

Uhh Don,,, we hillbilly's were raised knowing that info.

I once did a high school report on moonshine making. I even had a small sample in a 1/2 pint jar to show what it looked like & smelled like.
I couldn't do that today,,,,,!

My Mom's family were Eastern KY mountains. Grandfather went to Berea College about 1912. The valuable information got lost in succeeding generations though in our case. Work ethic didn't get lost though. Don.
