Any "Mountain Men' fans here??

I know we have our own mountain men on this forum --but i have a neighbor kid who is crazy about Marty Meierotto.I have tried to find him a poster of Marty but connot find one.I see where Marty was on the cover of Feb 2010 Field&Stream magazine.Does anyone here have a copy of this issue they would part with.I will pay for it and pay shipping to get a copy for him.Thanks Paul

I've seen the show a few times,,, but it didn't capture my interest enough to follow it. I only watched some of it because they had a guy from NC in it. He did enough BS that I stopped watching.

I'd contact Field and Stream sometimes they have back copies. I really like the show. I don't know Marty but the friends that I have who do say he's the real McCoy. He's one of my favorite people on the show.

To me, the show, and people are for real. Tom Orr, the guy from in the Yaak Valley, MT, rodeo'd with my friend when they were young men. Yes, a favorite show. More please ! If anyone here can get in touch with him, tell him "Coke" Blakemore says hello !

Once in awhile I will watch a reality show out of boredom. Recently I was watching that guy fly his Super Cub 400 miles (one way!) to go shoot a mountain goat so his family could have meat for the winter. I own a similar plane and I am here to tell ya, to fly a Cub for 8 hours you could buy your meat for the winter all packaged up, and it wouldn't be a big gamble of your life!
A couple years ago one afternoon my wife and I were at Chili`s restaurant for lunch. It was a slow afternoon and a local cowboy met his GF near our table so they could watch HIM on a reality show he had done where these three guys cross the mountains with BP rifles etc. By chance I had seen the same episode just a few weeks prior on a National Geographic show or similar. The four of us watched it together. I asked him how he got on the show and he told me "They" found me.
I suppose he was a local guide or something.
Doesn't the gullible public, (everyone over 7 years old) wonder about the camera crew following these people around and where they sleep, eat etc?
There used to be a Sunday newspaper comic cartoon when I was a kid called the "Dim Viewer". Some old grumpy geezer about like me that was always tearing apart TV shows. I guess I am him. As my dad used to say, "Don't insult my intelligence"!

I have tried e-bay,amazon but no luck--was hoping someone here might have a stash of old F&S mags--i even tried the History channel but not getting anywhere.I told him that us old airboat,swamp buggy,everglades guys were tougher-he did not buy it!! Hopefully someone will have a copy Thanks

Absolutely love that show. Very little on TV that I like these days but I love Mountain Men. My favorite is Rick Lewis and all his hounds!!

I keep hearing folks talk about some of the guys being "the real thing" but IF they are, they've lowered themselves to the level of what I consider "wannabees". I know how many of the tasks, chores, or struggles happen and can honestly say a LOT of content of the shows is contrived and dramatized for the camera. Although I realize the mundane, day-to-day stuff would not make good TV, I feel the shows are demeaning to the people who actually live the subsistence life style.

What rifle is Marty carrying in the opening credits of this season? I could never get a good look at it. Looked like it had a bunch of mechanism under the barrel, like a break-barrel air rifle.

I've seen him with various rifles, one is a stainless Ruger Mk II, another is a laminated stock 10/22, seems I remember Phil Shoemaker saying Marty had a Mauser of some sort, can't remember the caliber though. It's not uncommon to see more than one rifle on the same show with no explanation about the change, I just figured the movie or film people (what ever they are called) splice things arbitrarily, depending on times to make things work. Who knows?

On a couple of the wider angle overhead views, I've seen a paved highway not far from his house. Looked like maybe 100 yards or less.

I like the show "below zero"...they got a guy and his native wife and the daughters named Hailstone...he has the wife do all the shooting for him..she shoots a Mosin 91-30 with iron sights and is pretty good...she's small and its a wonder it doesn't knock her over....they shoot caribou in the river and tie them to their boat and drag in several to clean and butcher them to "feed all their friends"...

His original rifle was "Old Bonecrusher", a beat-up Mauser (custom?) in .358 Norma Mag. I wonder whose bones were being crushed - those of his prey, or Marty's shoulder bones? :shock:
Unfortunately, I read that it has since been stolen.

Not only doesn't shoot but doesn't handle a firearm(on camera anyway). What sort of situation puts a guy in that circumstance??? Think about it and you can come up with a likely answer.

As he says, altercation with Alaskan Staties, last I read it is still in court. No guns until it is resolved.

Not sure about all the ins and outs of his case but living around Eskimos it's obvious they get a LOT more latitude with their hunting than whites.
