Started the day by finding that my PC took an electronic dirt nap sometime last night. Power to it but won't start (power up). I then looked at the prices for new ones. . Hopefully my friend can resurrect it. I really don't want to pay the prices being asked.

My desktop died a slow and painful (for me) death a couple months back. After some window shopping, we bought a replacement at Walmart. Some sort of 'overstock' sale price that wasn't a budget buster (around $300 I think). HP with all the works inside the monitor, wireless mouse and keyboard, current operating system, partial touchscreen monitor, and other 'stuff' I neither use or understand. Last time Grandson was here, he removed all the spiderweb of wires and cables from the dead unit and set up the new one plus moved all my old computer's stored memory(?).

You ain't kidding on those prices. My daughter wanted my desktop computer for gaming. I looked at new computers and the prices have gone up so much in just the last couple years.

Needless to say she didn't get a gaming computer and I didn't buy a new one.

But I will say, if you do have to buy a new computer, spend a little more and get something more powerful than you need. It will (should) last longer. In my humble opinion.

Y'all are pretty funny. "Computers are expensive." My first PC was well over $1,000 in 1986. Heck, my 20 MB hard drive (never need anything bigger) was $400. Now you can get an entire computer for $150.

My dorm fridge was $139 in 1976. Every summer I get to listen to parents gripe because a dorm fridge is "sooo expensive" at $150.
