Me and the misses headed out this week to check out a series of falls on Firescald creek, in the Savage Gulf wilderness area.
Pretty rugged country - Savage gulf is the gorge of the Collins River
Trail starts out easy then turns into a rocky scramble.
Cool in the gulf - leads to lots of ice on cliff and trail
Big temp differential between elevations, so the water runs into the hollow and then freezes, like on this frozen Rhododendren
Firescald Creek starts its descent into the gorge
Upper Greeter Falls
Lower Greeter Falls
Boardtree Falls - in grove of ancient hemlocks
Laurel creek falls, behind the Stone Door Ranger Station
