My uncle gave me this rifle display case years ago with a commemorative Winchester in 38-55. The gun is long gone but I kept the case not knowing where I would use it again but figured it would eventually have a purpose. Taryn has been on the hunt for a case to display the RSSE with the knowledge there will ultimately be one more added, the flat gate polished Jerred. She stumbled across this display case tucked away in a closet and pulled it out to see if it would fit. We placed another RSS5 in the case and the fit is almost like it was designed for it. She is planning on replacing the felt on the back but sticking with the red. We have been discussing how to mount the guns. We tend to zip tie the guns to the display boards just so people are unable to walk up and handle them but since these will be behind glass we are looking at other options. My thought was to take some spent 22 LR or Mag casings and fit them with a wooden dowel in the middle and put a screw in from the back with one in the trigger guard and the other under the barrel. My concern with that idea is that there is no "lip" to keep the guns from falling if the display gets jarred, or rammed, by an old man on an electric scooter.

Inputs would be appreciated.

For reference: Spanish Engraved (left), All Blue Jerred (center), and round gate polished Jerred (right)

Looks nice. I made some rifle racks out of scrap wood and stained them, and they came out looking pretty good too. If I was doing that project, I'd likely be making a trip to Lowes with some vague ideas in the back of my mind. Like maybe using some small diameter bolts instead of screws, and a few nuts. Maybe some big black plastic washers for the "lip". You could even tighten it from the back to firmly hold the guns in place. Even just the dowels with a bit of cutting for the lip and a good stain if they need it.

Sometimes I don't even fully complete an idea until I'm in the store and see what they got.

Sounds like what Taryn does. I tag along and she will tell me what she is going to do with what she buys but it never makes sense until she has it in place. Not sure if the disconnect is her explaining it or me understanding her. Probably opening the doors for some comments on that one.

Nice Display! Could you possibly make or get some miniature RR Spikes? The heads would have the lip to keep things from falling. Maybe make them from 1/4"- 3/8" Square Bar Stock, Cut to shape, a little filing/grinding, heat and douse in oil or a blackening solution for some color. Just a quick thought.

Possibly go with your original thoughts with the .22 cases, but when you mount it, put some small "spacers" on the back to push the bottom out a little so it tilts back a bit so that they won't fall off. Or, cut the dowels at the rear at an angle so they angle up a bit. Personally, I'd go with the spacers on the back to angle the display up a bit, easier to do and that way they can be put on with a non permanent method.

The "Engineer" has decided we are going to go with the empty cases idea and see how it looks on the full display that we (she) are working on for Tulsa and then it will be expanded to include these RSSE for the 2026 NRA convention in Houston.

We did see these at Hobby Lobby today, which I prefer, but she wants to see what she can make it look like first with the empty casings.

,,,the trick is to also make sure, on any display, that the gun is secure......very few pay attention and read the signs, main reason we always stood by, paid attention and let the displayers, like my wife, used to answer all the questions......:rolleyes:;)

I've used this method in all my Ruger displays involving single actions. Makes them appear as though they are floating. I can't recall where I purchased these from but very simple to use and mount. For big bore guns either use some hose over the end or wrap some tape to take up space in the cylinder.
