Another "Victory" Model

The photos of the Victory model revolver got me to thinking about other "Victory" items

This is the Lane Victory. Last of the Victory ships in operation. She has been restored by a group that initially was made up mostly of Ameican Merchant Seaman from WWII.

Nope, just a standard Victory model freighter. She was built too late to see service in WWII, but did see service in Korea and Viet Nam. Whe rescued, she was in Suisun Bay rusting away. She was towed down to L.A. Harbor. Initially, the city didn't want her in port, and finally allowed her to tie up at an old coke dock. Years later, after the voluteers had restored her and had her up and running, the city then "wanted" her. Sher is currently moored next to the cruise ship terminal, and is considered a jewel of the harbor. Typical political BS.

Beautiful ship, great legacy. When I lived near Brownsville Texas in 1999-2000 they had a similar issue with an old Jeep Carrier. It was moored in the Brownsville ship canal and the powers that be were bickering over the status of the vessel. I moved before it was resolved but I fear she was scrapped. What a loss to our future generations. Too many of our great ships have been turned into soup cans and Chevettes.
