I experienced a Squib yesterday this one was a lot easier to deal with the the one that locked up my .454 Alaskan

Reloads? Hand loads? Looks like a 22lr?
I've only had one 22lr not properly fire (click no bang) in 35 years. What brand is it?

Yes .22 LR. These were left in a loading block for several years on my bench. They looked new, but 1/2 of them either didn't go off or just went pop instead of bang.


Could not believe that one almost made it out of the barrel but not quite. I wiggled it out with my fingers.

I just recently had two .22LR cartridges fail to fire. I had about 100 old cartridges of indeterminate age but the lead RN bullets had all turned white. They may easily have been thirty years old as I found them in a big box of a deceased uncles treasures. Prior to this I don’t recall ever having a .22 fail to fire.
I have never had a squib, thankfully. A buddy did have one recently while we were target shooting but luckily we both heard it. It was a reloaded .45 ACP he inherited from his father’s estate. The remaining thousand rounds were trouble free.

Only true 'squib' I've had was 17HMR and the bullet only made it about one inch into the rifling. I dropped a piece of brazing rod close to bore diameter down the barrel and the bullet popped right out.

I've had numerous cheap 22LR rounds fail to fire, which I then ejected and threw the round in the "Dud" box at the range, but never in 60 years of shooting have experienced an actual squib. I assume a squib would have a small amount of sound and recoil as compared to a normal round, but would not be just the click of the firing pin. Then again, I don't reload and use only factory made ammo.

Wow...you have lead a charmed life...most of us have had hundreds of dead 22lr over the years... sometimes 1%of an entire box
