Another Smith I always wanted....

Around 1980 I started going to gunshows in earnest. One of the first revolvers I ever saw and lusted after was a blued 4" S&W 25-5 45LC. I liked the 45 Colt cartridge and in this revolver it was just beautiful. I couldn't afford one then and ove the years have seen others that circumstance or lack of funds prevented me from acquiring.

Well, last Saturday after setting up at the show, I saw a 25-5 at a vendors table. After some dickering it was mine. I's not blued and not absolutely perfect, but very nice nonetheless. I couldn't resist the shiny nickle finish. :D I can't wait to get to the range and see how she shoots.......I'm betting it will do just fine!

Good snag Dave! I am trying to find a 4" blued version of the 25 that I can afford. Hope you are feeling well my friend and that you have a great and blessed holiday.

Feeling great Robb. I wanted a blued version as well, but this one will do. I hope you and the family have a very Merry Christmas! :D

Good find Dave! Now if you're like me, you'll also find a blue one before the year's over  Gotta love those old N frames!

Hellman.... don't know what changes the Model 25-5 represent over 25-2, etc., but it looks like you have the old school drop forged innards. A factory LIGHT REBOUND SPRING may be in order for improved DA control.

Old S&W nickel is a finish of beauty. Avoid any prolonged exposure to ammonia dopes. Even the mild, otherwise protective Hoppe's #9 should not be left on nickel.

A load which should prove accurate, one well within the .45 Colt pressure limit of the Smith:

Cast 255 SWC
6.7 gr./HP-38 or 231 (HP-38 is Win 231)
Standard LP primer
.45 Colt brass
COL=1.500" (deep seat SWC to crimp .040" above front band) This may yield around 800 fps.

Beautiful looking revolver,
David Bradshaw

I recently acquired, then sold, an early 25 6.5" 45ACP. It was a neat gun but I would rather have the 45 Colt. Nice snag for sure!

Very nice. I like nickel S&W's. My 25-5 below and I recently picked up a nickel 4" M29-2 fitted with an Austin Behlert rear sight. Both bargains I lucked into. Have you measured the cylinder throats yet?

I had a 25 Mountain Gun once but I think I would like to get another 25 someday, but not a MG again. I like the thought of having a big bullet in one of those plus being a square butt besides.
