39th anniversary today. I had wanted to go to Whitefish Point for the annual memorial service this year but I'm in the process of moving. Maybe next year, weather permitting.

A friends Dad was a crew member. He was put ashore here for health reasons, and so missed that terrible day. I saw her once, off Erie, when I was a boy. She was huge !

A haunting melody, that I have enjoyed? Perhaps it is the story. Shakspere is known for his tragedies, and this ranks up there in my minds eye. RIP to the crewman of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

I wonder how many would even know about it without the song? It has a haunting sound to it that moves me every time I hear it.

I don't remember the news at all from that time.

I recall reading about it years later and wondering why I didn't know much about it. Then I put 2+2 together: I was about 3 or 4 weeks into Basic Training at the time. News wasn't our first priority then.
