Andre Rieu Concert

I believe I'll spend tomorrow evening listening to Andre Rieu concerts. There are three or four in my DVD library including a few opera DVD's. This piece will probably be in one of those concerts, enjoy:

a marvelous version of one of my very favorite classics

I played in Orchestra all through school & college. This piece would come up every few years. I never tired of it.....although still marvel at any drummer able to focus that well.....

My roller derby blocker and soon to be social worker daughter is a floutist (for these past 20 years) and sometimes clarinet doesn't play quite this well, but ... this always draws my attention; I've always liked Ravell.

If you play flute, clarinet, or oboe, go for it; it'll tear your heart out. My instrument is the baritone horn; doesn't work there. I coached my daughter on flute from grade five to 12.

I was decent on violin/cello/French Horn/Trombone/tympani. Clarinet/sax/flute just didn't work very well for me. I did play a double belled euphonium briefly one day, until the conductor scowled profoundly and took it back with a pained look that was as alarming as much as embarrassing.

As a final curtain on my musical career, my college piano teacher by the 4th week of the term, had the grace to gently ask if I had considered a better use of my time would be something other than piano....

Can't go wrong listening to Andre Rieu. We've gone to several concerts and will go again if we have the chance.

Just personal opinion, but I like to think Andre Rieu has done more for classical music than just about anyone I can think of as far as "taking it to the streets." I heard him in an interview once where he was asked his "secret." He said he just liked to have fun with the music, not get too serious, and apparently his audiences love it that way! I know I do...

One of the local PBS stations buys out all the tickets for several of his shows whenever he's in SoCal, as part of their "Begging For Money Week" gifts in exchange for a certain level of donation, and I understand they're all filled, every time...

I'd love to see one of his concerts in person. I love to watch him when he does something like the 1812 Overture and he gets so excited and starts jumping around.

A conductor doesn't have to be some stodgy old geezer with a beard waving a little stick. Rieu just makes it look like so much fun.

Very very impressive! Wonderful sounding orchestra and an excellent rendition of Ravel's Boléro.

Hi,

Bolero, Dudley Moore and Bo Derek, movie "10" (1980?)... probably half of America's introduction to that piece of music? Especially in the way Hipshot suggested... ;)
