Anaconda 45 Long Colt

My wife gave this to me for Christmas. It's first year of production (?). I use 8.5 grains of Unique & a Bull-x 250 grain lead semi wad cutter sized .452 in my Ruger Bisley's. I used it in the Anaconda as I recall, it came together with a lot of promise. I only shot 12 rounds, cleaned it, and put it up. .45 LC being my fav. caliber, & my being a senior now for quite a while, a reader of David Bradshaw 6 Shot & 2 dogs plus many others, I may pull it out. A good friend of mine has one. Sadly,, he hasn't had the inclination to shoot it much & discover the joys of the 45 Colt!

I love my .357Magnums but the .45Colt is my "large" cartridge of choice and have a couple Rugers for which I load Goldilocks loads which are enjoyable to shoot. I do keep "bear loads" loaded when in backcountry. What a great cartridge - still around getting the job done after all these years.

My next revolver will be a Ruger Redhawk .45Colt stainless with a 5.5inch barrel.... haven't found one for sale yet here in Alaska but I'm looking.

I got a sad, sad story about a Anaconda I once owned, in.44 Mag. I bought it for the princely sum of $400. Keep in mind Colt was still making them at the time I bought it. For some reason, don't ask me why, I traded it for a Browning A Bolt Medallian in .223. Now here's the kicker. That Browning was one of the most inaccurate rifles I ever owned! It was minute of pie plate at 100 yards. Never could figure out what was wrong with that rifle. And around 3 months later Colt stopped making all revolvers! The price of a Anaconda, as everyone well knows, skyrocketed along with the rest of Colt revolvers! Talk about bad timing. I have had that kind of luck my whole life! LOL!

Actually there is no such thing as a "45 Long Colt".

I have been a fan of the .45 Long Colt for the past ten years or so. My .41's are lonesome. Did I mention that I really like the .45 Long Colt. Sometimes I still refer to clips for handguns too.

Correct. It's actually ".45 Long Colt" . . . and I still occasionally see ammo so labelled.

Depends on how you define "Long Colt". The Army adopted the Schofield revolver in .45 Schofield, that ammunition would fire in a 45 Colt revolver, the .45 "Long Colt' could not be fired in a Schofield. Since the Army issued both the Schofield and the SAA the 45 Schofield was adopted to ensure ammunition interchangeability.
