American in 35 Remington?

Hello shooters,

I recently contacted Ruger's CEO Mike Feifer with a request to build the American in 35 Rem. I would really like to see one soon because I ain't getting any younger.

I can't be the only one wanting one of these, can I? What say the brush hunters about the old 35 Rem? Potent package it would surely be.

I like traditional cartridges myself--that would be a nice one--but what I'd REALLY like is a 41 mag carbine to go along with my blackhawk. Since the American is a new gun--I don't think a "trad caliber" would fly--but who knows!

Finding a Ruger chambered for the 35 would be the hardest item to locate. I have a few hundred cases waiting for a 35 Rem. rifle.

Doubt we will see anything 35 caliber in the american. If it were to happen think it would be 358 win. All that would be needed is the barrel. Bolt face and magazine would be the same as the already produced 308.

.35 ANYTHING in rifles have been slow sellers in this country. The .358 Win and .35 Whelen have both had very limited sales and the .350 Remington Mag was DOA almost from the day it was introduced. Over the years the .35 Rem. has been primarily a lever gun round and not many were sold at that. American hunters either want .30 or below for most game or .375 and up for the really big stuff. The only mid-bore that seems to get any attention is the .338 Win.

The only .35's that have really sold are the 9 mm and .357/.38 Special handgun rounds. :)

You are smarter than a lot of em out there that have a 35 Rem rifle already. Judging by what some gunbroker prices are at for ammo and brass , there are some scrounging for anything they can find just to hit the woods this fall. And paying dearly for it! Ive seen several auctions for two 20 round boxes of factory ammo run up over $100! And once fired for a buck a peice? Crazy! Or stupid...
I have a '67 vintage Marlin 336 and a Rem XP-100R in 35 Rem. And well stocked on factory ammo , brass , and bullets to where I doubt I'll ever need to buy for the rest of my time left...and Im only 46.

Myself , Id rather see an M77 or No.1 in the 35 but would shell out the cash if an American came out and had sights.

My biggest suggestion is not to wait around for Ruger to make anything in a 35 and go get one in whatever platform tickles your behind! It is easy to load for and an absolute blast to shoot! Also a very , very versatile round from heavy loads , cast bullets , and down to plinking loads using pistol bullets.

Originally I thought of the 358 Win. but I really like the Remington 35 much better. Over the winter, if nothing develops from Ruger, I will get a 308 American and have it chambered and bored for the 35 Rem. I would surmise that the bolt face would need no work as these cases are very close in rim dimentions.

I've killed deer with two different 35's, a 350 Rem in a flat bolt Ruger 77 and the other with a 35 Rem Marlin SSLTD, both of which I no longer own.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I wish they would at least be drilled and tapped for sights so you had the option.

.358 Win is a better choice, IMO. You can kill anything that needs killin' with it if you handload: gophers to grizzlies.

I have a Rem Model Seven KS in 35 Rem for several years and it shoots cloverleafs at 100 yards and weighs 5.5 pounds without scope and has a twenty inch barrel. It will flat out spoil you when you carry it in the woods because of its light weight. I have killed several deer with it but it just mainly resides in my safe. I bought 15 boxes of Rem ammo at Walmart several years ago for 5 dollars a box. I haven't run across a sale like that since and probably won't. It is a 150 yard gun for sure so I am not going to run out of brass anytime soon.

I want an american in 35 Whelen, easy to do as it's the same cartridge as the 3006.

I think a .35 Rem would be a long shot. Have more luck getting them to make a .358 Win or a .35 Whelen.
