American 223

I did not need another 223 but sometimes opportunity presents a bargain. Purchased this rifle used about a month ago and took it out today. Nothing spectacular but completely dependable. I was shooting fast and getting on paper from the bench. I shot reloads of Sierra 55 grain BTHP over X10. Fun, dependable and Coyote ready. Set it up at about 2 inches high at 100 yards.

Looks like you are ready. I have the predator in 223. It loves 50-53 grain bullets. When you have more time, try some different loads in your gun and take your time firing. I think you will find some very good accuracy.

Definitely the 223 if you do not handload.

Don't hand load and anywhere from 25 to 150 yds. I am going for the model that comes from Ruger scoped.

Factory or handloads, the .223 is by far the more versatile and the ammo and components much more readily available at much better prices. At the ranges you are shooting a super flat trajectory (say 22-250 type) isn't an issue and the .223 will be a lot less wind sensitive.

The .223 with 50 to 55 gr bullets will do fine for varmints up to coyotes in size and you can even use it for deer with strongly constructed 60 gr or above bullets if your state allows 22 centerfires for "big" game.

The only animals that it will take are Ground Hogs, a stray yote or two , and probably a few skunks ( at long range).

I deer hunt with a 45-70 or 30-30. the 45-70 and the 30-30 also are used for pigs.
Ruger 10/22 reserved for tree rats.
Shotguns foe Chuckers, Huns, Doves, and Pheasants.

Well I have decided on the Predator 223 topped with a Nikon Pro Staff 4x12x40...Now all I have to do is figure a way to pay for it. LGC are within a few $'s of each other and it will cost me about $700.00 + or - a buck or two.

On this occasion I was shooting Sierra 55 grain BTHP on top of 21.3 grains of 10X.
