Amazon Prime Ripoff

I was checking my credit card statement and there was a charge for "amazon prime". I never requested that so I called my credit card company and they said that many of their customers are complaining about this monthly charge they never signed up for. They told me that if I ordered an item that had 2 day shipping Amazon would charge my account for a monthly membership fee for that month and each subsequent month thereafter.
I recommend that you check your credit card statement for charges from "amazon prime" and request a credit for this charge on your statement.

Yeah, one really has to pay attention to the "fine-print" when ordering from Amazon. Prime is one of those "default" buttons which gets activated if one simply hits "continue" while going through the ordering pages. I simply cannot tolerate that practice of theirs. Unfortunately, amazon has stuff almost impossible to find elsewhere.

I was never even tempted to sign up for prime. If I really need something right now, I go to town. 2 days or 2 weeks does not matter to me when ordering online.

I am amazed that Chewy can get pet food delivered to my door in 2 to 3 days without any prime feature.

I mostly got prime for the video. The free shipping is a plus. I usually defer for standard shipping so I get a dollar off on digital books to feed my wife’s kindle book addiction. Two day or next day shipping can be handy. I don’t always have time to drive into town to get something I need quickly. Pretty sure signing up for prime is in the not so fine print when you place an order.

I've found that if you choose 4-6 day shipping at no cost that it usually shows up in 2 days anyway.

It's a function of which warehouse the item is located at.

I . . always . . look for the "free shipping" which requires purchasing $25
or more for a given order. I just put the items "in my shopping cart" until
I have enough for free shipping, then place the order. In fact, I have at
lest five or six items in the shopping cart most of the time. You can "save
for later" to keep them from coming all in one order.

I had one last week that I ordered on a Sunday and it arrived the next day.
My guess is that it was in the Phoenix warehouse.

To anyone that says "that takes a lot of time", I say that time saves me
$10/mo for Prime, AND over $7 per shipment. Since I usually get two or
three shipments per week, I just smile.

My son was just home for the weekend and noticed something his mom could use for mothers day. He ordered it around 4pm on saturday and it showed up here sunday morning around 10am. Just a week early for Mothers Day but what can you do. We never heard or saw a truck so don't know who delivered it. It was left on the porch so most likely not a drone delivery.

I found Amazon charges on my credit card just before Christmas. Seems the wife ordered something and selected "free shipping" and that started the monthly charges. Didn't know it until I saw the charges on he statement. I have most things paperless so had to go online for the research. When I called they apologized and reversed 3 months charges. But it seems sneaky and I would not have known except for checking my card account item by item.

I don’t view that as unfortunate. The crummy stores in my little burg hardly have any clothes in my size. Blue jeans and underbritches is about it. No size 14 shoes, socks, no 19-36 shirts. The nearby Walmart is 75 miles away. They’re no help, anyway.

Thank God for amazon, even with their assorted shortcomings.

It's not just Amazon. Most anything you do online now has default settings for all kinds of recurring charges and spam mail. You have to pay close attention to each page.

Often Amazon will have a “Try Prime for free” option, with two-day shipping. Typically after the trial period (whatever length it may be), they will bill you for Prime.

I did that, then forgot all about it until the bill came. I called to cancel Prime, explained I had forgotten to cancel, and asked if they would kindly reverse the charges- which they did.

Not only do I enjoy some of the programming on Prime TV, but I like the convenience of one click shopping on Amazon and the free shipping on most items. At first I only ordered from Amazon for stuff I could not find in local stores. Now, Amazon is the first place I go to and 95% of the time I find what I want and have it ordered in about a minute. The amount of stuff that I get shipped for free easily exceeds the cost of the Prime annual membership fee. When the Costco that is being built in my city opens soon, then I might reconsider whether or not to continue with Amazon Prime.

I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure they were just charging me once a year... Now most of the time when I get something directly from Amazon it comes in a "Prime" van. Seems they have now by passed UPS and Fed X here in my town.

My bet is not just your town. I'm waiting on a FedEx shipment, which is
the third non Amazon delivery this year. I do about three deliveries per
week, just to keep them close to upset with me; as soon as it is over $25
for free delivery, the order is placed. :wink:

I have Amazon Prime and use it for their videos
and especially for their Kindle Unlimited books.
I have also ordered quite a bit of merchandise from them and
the shipping is free, fast and have never had anything damaged.
I like it a lot.
Just call me a rebel........ :P

Tried it for a year as lots of ppl I know use it and rave about it. The free shipping was what lured me more than anything and once I signed up, lots of what I ordered “wasn’t eligible for free shipping.” Needless to say I didn’t renew my membership after a year.

Like woodsy said, read that fine print.
