The info is as true as the internet. It is not some magical oracle.

I have a few different ones, from dots, to spots, to hubs and a show (the show is in the kitchen).

They have replaced any and all stereos/radios and alarm clocks.

I have different automations and routines set up, which is the biggest benefit, especially if you have "smart" outlets. For example, I plug our Christmas tree into a smart outlet, I have three different automations set up for it.
  • "Light the lights" turns on the tree.
  • "It's Christmas!" turns on the tree and plays a Christmas carol playlist on every device in the house.
  • "Shut it down" turns off the tree and music
My next home will have a lot more functionality built in, especially around HVAC and efficiency. I would never set it up to be able to lock/unlock doors, but controlling lights, window blinds, things like that...

I use a couple of them in the house.
Control smart plugs, turn on bedroom lights before I head up there, control the bedroom fan it’s nice to just tell Alexa to kill the fan when it gets too cool. Program lights throughout the house for vacation, or set up timers to keep your chickens happy.

Replacement for the clock radio, not great if your internet connection is wonky. But nice when I want to play a half hour of Chris Ladue, or James McMurtry or even podcasts. The sound quality is at least as good as my hearing can discern.

You need to learn to ask questions in a way it understands. As I tell my wife you have to figure it out in your head before you start talking. Asking it the wrong questions gets you the wrong answers

I’m pretty sure it listens to my life less than the phone or my wife.
 
I have three in my house. One in the living room, one in the kitchen and my daughter has the third in her room. My daughter got some sort of deal so they were free after rebate. I never would have bought them but I've gotten used to them.

I use them as timers and to play music in the kitchen. They can't replace a stereo. "Alexa, what's the weather?" is a frequent ask. Other questions are TV and movie related like, "Alexa, when was Donovan's Reef released?"

Sometimes out of the blue it will answer a question that wasn't asked. That's always a surprise.
 
My favorite is when it starts talking without a prompt. I usually say “Alexa, I was not talking to you.” Alexa usually responds with an apology for “her” mistake.
 
I have Alexa in one room, and an Echo in another room, otherwise both might respond when you say the word "Alexa". We use it for music, i.e. Amazon music, weather updates and sometimes just general information similar to asking Siri on my Iphone. But I do recognize that it is always listening. For awhile it was asking me, unprompted, if I wanted to re-order something that I had previously ordered on Amazon, but when I asked it to stop these reminders it no longer does it.

I remember as a kid often asking all sorts of questions of my parents, who of course did not know the answers. They would say "Go to the library and look it up". Rarely was my curiousity strong enough to for me to do that. Now I just yell out "Alexa", or "Echo" or "Hey Siri" and get my answers right on the spot. I have rarely found that the answers were wrong.

Not an Alexa type device but one Sunday morning right in the middle of the sermon Siri decided to pipe up, "This is what I found on that." Pretty embarrassing. I had silenced my ringer. It never occurred to me I needed to turn volume all the way down on my phone.
 
My step father would say he didn’t want that woman in his house. Now mind you he was in the beginning stage of dementia so we did as he asked. After he passed my mom enjoys having alexia turn on her lights for here and listens to music with it.

I’ve had people tell us that they are listening in on what’s going on in our house. I always ask who “They” are but they can’t tell me that. We have several throughout the house and if “They” are listening they have to be really bored. We use them for alarm clocks, the time, music, weather and other questions that we might have.

I have a couple of them. Nice to roll out of bed after telling it to turn the lights on and start the coffee.

Alexa, turn the thermostat up to 73. Alexa, bedroom light on. Alexa turn coffee on. Alexa what is todays weather. Alexa set a 10 minute timer. Alexa wake me up at 7am. Alexa remind to call work at 10am. Alexa remind me to change the furnace filter 90 days from today. Alexa play I’m gonna live forever byt Billy Joe Shaver (and it plays).

Lots of uses and you can set up routines to do multiple things.

My son has one as well and on mornings we are going hunting I set mine up to call him at 3:30am and tell us BOTH to get up and get ready to hunt today. I usually hear a shoe hitting my sons Dot at his house (thrown by my daughter in law), but it works like a champ.

I live alone so I am not worried about the fact that it is listening all the time which might be a consideration if I have family at home. Other than that they come in very handy.

Ahh yes…. that is a downside. If I have the TV on and there is a character on a show or movie named Alexa I have to mute the microphone on that dot until it is over. You have a choice of 4 or 5 different “wake words” but Alexa is the default.

They sell a lot of red dots of various brands.

We don’t use Alexa for anything, my car has Google. I can say “Google turn up the radio volume.” It takes more effort than hitting the button on the steering wheel.

I use Siri on my phone, mostly for what’s the weather today. Or what time is it in the middle of the night.

I have bought a red dot, RMR, & a couple of riflescopes as well as some other firearms accessories & knives from Amazon. They usually have good deals on decent stuff. My wife has kept Prime for years so not having to pay shipping is a big plus.

I bought the Bore brush and some other shooting supplies for my step-son, who came into a Stevens 511 16 ga. double. He called me to help him find a few things without having to pay high Midway shipping. Because I have Prime, Amazon is my first choice. Worked out just fine.
 
I had one years ago. Probably 15. Got it for free. I worried that they were bugging my house with it cause all that stuff was new. Then one day I decided that they would never bug my house. All they would hear was my kids asking Alexa to make fart noises or sing what does the fox say.

I know they sell various brands of a lot of things. The point was, I don't see a red dot with AMAZON stenciled on the side tho 🤷‍♂️

No, nothing branded with Amazon. They were the only place I could find the Burris scopes for my hunters though. Every place else was more expensive and most were sold out. Price was actually about the same as my dealer cost through the gunsmith I work with.
