A couple of months ago, a gentleman of about 75 years old was walking through the show with a plain jane Ruger #1-S. I was attracted to it because of the caliber. I had been looking for a 7mm Mag in this configuration for awhile. I had hoped for a prettier example, but this one was priced right and I thought I could always upgrade later.......

I gave $650 for the rifle and 75 rounds of "pet" loads that the man said was very accurate in this rifle. I was a skeptic because the rifle had a so-so Bushnell scope and, as I found out later, Millet Angle-Lok rings mounted on it.

This past weekend, I finally installed an older set of Ruger rings and a 3x9x40 Leupold scope. Today, I made it to the range to see how it would shoot. After bore sighting and "walking" in to zero, I shot a 3 shot group for accuracy.

I was absolutely amazed! :D I consider myself an okay bench shooter, but I have never shot a group like this from a high powered hunting rifle! I think I have a keeper. Of course, more range time will be needed to see if this is a fluke. For now, I am satisfied........with one exception.......I have no idea what the load configuration is.... The previous owner may have told me, but I don't remember. He assured me the load was "very accurate". Talk about an understatement!

Very nice group!
The proof of accuracy is consistency over many groups. Can it repeat it over several sessions?

Dunno....plan to find out, though. :D I'm aware this may be as good as it gets and may never be able to duplicate it. BUT, for the first time out, it was quite impressive.. :D

A keeper for sure! Yes, I'd want to know what was in those "pet loads" as well - you may want to take one or two cartridges apart and get weight of components and see if you can tell which powder is used. And try to track that gentleman down to get the recipe!
