Alliant Clay Dot

A new Alliant powder has appeared at my LGS. It is Clay Dot by Alliant and from what I can find out it is supposed to be like Clays (Which has left the shooting world).

Has anyone tried this powder and if so what was the result? Also, any idea what bushings should one use for a Hornady 366. I realize that I could call Hornady but I am still waiting for a response on a inquiry that they say they would get back to me and that was on Dec 17,2014.

The plant that made the Clays series of powders had a major fire some time back, I heard from a Hodgdon source. I wonder if they are back up and running?
The Clays line of powders labeling was very confusing in that the names of the different types were to similar although the burning rates some different. To easy to mix up the data. They need to have a number also,like Calys#1,Clays #2,etc. I have some of a couple of them but never could get excited about them when data is not that specific. There are lots of other good powders available also.

Clays, International Clays and Universal Clays doesn't seem too confusing to me. There are worse combinations like IMR 4895 and H4895 or any of those other number powders.

ive already used universal clays with unique data or vise versa by weight not volume . ive read about others doing the same with clays and clay dot . im not suggesting or recommending for others to do so just passing along what ive read

I heard Hodgdon plant is up and running finally..

If you used 17.5 gr. of Clays that's the weight of Clay Dot you use. I don't know what bushing size it though. A lot of my customers switched to CD because it was about 20.00 less than Clays for 8# and burned as clean.

I bought some of the Clay Dot to use in place of Clays in the revolver cartridges I load with lead bullets. My friend has a chronograph and CD was just a little slower in speed with equal weights of powder. It was close and burned clean enough for the intended purpose. I will use it until the supply of Clays is replaced. An 8lb jug will load quite a few 327 Federals with a 115gr RNFP at 3.7 grains per round.

Talked to Hornady about the Clay Dot and they CAN NOT give me powder bushing numbers for a 366. I want to be able to push a 1 oz load at 1200fps the same as Clays or there about.
