Watching an episode of Below Zero they were shooting at muskrats from a moving boat, and missing a lot. He was commenting on everything is expensive especially ammo.

Here in the land of convenient grocery stores I can park the 22 rifles when ammo is expensive. I'm mostly killing paper anyway. In Alaska ammo equals food. Any thoughts on what the cost of a brick of 22 is going for in the Alaska outback?

Well .. .. .. do tell .... what does a brick of .22 ammo go for up in AK.

Dik(inAlaska), would you enlighten us?

I read the post a second time .... the poster is in westconsin and was watching a TV show ... so he probably don't know

I think one of the points he is making, (whether he meant to or not). Is that most of the people complaining about the ammo shortage are just having fun. Some people need ammo to get their grocery's. I have always heard it is very expensive to live in both Alaska and Hawaii. Ed

I did indeed mean that we in the land of plenty (lower 48 states) complain about lack of ammo for recreation shooting. In Alaska they talk about "miss the shot and go hungry!" Real survival hunting.

In the episodes I have see they have all been using iron sights. Ok except on an AR that had a scope & another individual that had a scoped bolt big game gun. I guess they get close enough to the small game to not need a scope on a 22??

The 22 should be a natural for Alaska. Easy to carry ammo that does not tear up the eating meat.

I don't think all of Alaska is like that, I think they have food stamps in Alaska too.Seems to me when I see the show about the Alaska state troopers they are dealing with drug and alcohol problems just like every where else.

Also I am sure there are lots of people who hunt to eat in the Lower 48. I have a cousin who is pretty poor, if he doesn't get a deer or two during deer season it is the difference between having extra money for the year, or buying meat instead of Christmas presents. Ed.

Was lucky enough to actually buy a couple bricks a few days ago via a "special promotion" at about $23 per brick.
Not sure if that's a deal or not as it is the first opportunity I've had to buy a brick of 22lr in probably THREE YEARS...
But trust me - Alaska is an expensive place to live right up there with the 50th State in the Union... Here in the interior of the state our electric & heat costs are killing us. Shooting is expensive as well but actually getting the ammo or components are as big of a challenge as the prices..
