Afternoon Squirrel Hunt

These pictures were taken by my grandson and he didn't know to get the handgun in the picture of me holding the squirrel. The one Dick took might be better.

It was the first shot of the afternoon of a really nice day. 13 yards with the sun to my back. That way I have an edge because the front sights show up rather well on my 32 Maggie, and the sun is in the squirrels eyes. 100 grain cast bullet with 3 grains of WST, and 1 dead squirrel.

This one shows the squirrel and the 32 Maggie laying in some dried grass. There was a lot of old dry grass that made the squirrels really hard to see. I was able to get another squirrel at about 10 yards. No pictures. We saw quite a few later on in an open area, but they were 100 yards plus away. We had fun shooting at them, and came really close on a few. I was able to get one of these long distance vermin. It jumped for joy and did a summer salt then hit the ground with a full belly flop. Something about squirrel hunting, It makes Dick hungry, so we had to go to town and have some Chinese food.


Here is a couple pictures of me and my oldest grandson. He has a tendency to exaggerate just a little bit, something that I never do.

All work and no play makes for a couple of dull boys. Steve

That's a lot a lot of fun' especially with the grandkids!!

Our squirrel season opened yesterday (tree squirrels) and I'm hoping to take the g'kids out after them shortly.

That chinese restaurant allow you to supply your own meat? :lol: Never tried Kung pao ground squirrel or Szechuan fried badger. You guys out West have it made. We Easterners have to stick with cat and dog, you know regular chinese type food :lol:

I bet that is a one of a kind type hat for a one of a kind kinda' guy ! Great report, glad to see you have some fun !

I think Callshot (cantshoot) told his grandson to take the photo from the same distance that he shot it from! :lol:
Actually he made 2 very good shots yesterday, on this squirrel he could only see a small part of it & then a little while later he busted one at an honest 80 yds. These squirrels are only about 2" wide when standing, not much of a target but he made the shot.
At first I thought the squirrel might have died of a heart attack when it seen that bright yellow shirt, probably thought a giant bottle of mustard was stalking it. :wink: But, he really did whack it, dead center.

Not a bad looking sixgun for a dang Hillbilly!!

Hey Dick, did callshot shoot that ground squirrel while he was on his pogo stick ? :lol:

I'm glad to see he got his trigger finger all trimmed up for the Spring/Summer varmint season :lol:

Lastly, Steve said the hat man screwed up his hat. There was supposed to be a space between the 's' and the 'h' for CALLS HOT. :lol:

Rob, I had the hat made in Pocatello. It is quite unique and rare. Dick, If I am a hillbilly, How did you teach me how to shoot? Jeff, No Pogo Sticks were involved in this escapade. All just in summertime fun! I only get out of the old age home once in a while, so I have to make the best of it when I do escape and/or wander off without my medications. :roll: Steve/Canshoot

At the risk of boring everyone (what the heck; why stop now?), I'll say again for about the 45th time: before cozying up to a ground squirrel like that PLEASE google "infectious diseases carried by ground squirrels".

We have few enough young shooters as it is.

Looks like you guys had a great time, and good for you gettin the grandson interested in the shooting sports. I can't wait till my grandkids are old enough to take shooting/hunting. Everyone that can should mentor a youngster.
