I can't seem to get a reply from an admin regarding an email notification problem. I have sent a few PMs to admin and mod which were not read or answered, save for one reply stating that a mod can't override, and have posted in the "office" section as well, but no replies. I have had to change my email provider to gmail.com since I moved from KY to FL, but gmail is "not allowed". I believe that this can be fixed by an admin, but I can't even get a reply.

I have been a member in good standing here for several years, over 1500 posts, etc. and I believe that I at least deserve a reply.

Hi Specs,

It could be such a thing the Admins are trying to figure out how to make the exception. May I suggest one of the other "free" providers that aren't on the "taboo" list? Excite.com springs to mind.

Hi, Specs -

The admins have been unavailable for a little while, while they take care of some non-forum related things. The mods are doing their best in the admins absence, but we don't have control over things like E-mail, etc. We can only perform forum, not user, related functions.

I'm sure the admins will be back soon. Please be patient. You aren't being ignored intentionally.

Oh, and posts like this usually go in the "Office" sub-forum, but I'll leave this here as I think others have had the same experience and might inclined to read this thread before going to the "Office."

Thanks for understanding,

EEG

Thanks once again for the replies. I did post in the "office", but it went nowhere. I don't understand why gmail.com is not allowed here. I use it with several other forums and also for some business and private things as well.

I just checked Administrators and Moderators and none of them have been online the last time any of them were on was 8/24/2014

It can be done, I did it a few years ago. I went from Hotmail to Gmail due to a new phone. Not a big deal at all.

The only thing is that it takes an admin to fix it, unless you know of another way.

I can give a probable reason why gmail isn't allowed as a mail provider. On my own forum I have "gmail.com" blocked because many spambots use it as a default provider for their fake registrations. By blocking it, I cut down my daily fake registration requests by approximately 50% daily. I can manually enter in a email address with that email provider for my members to use and circumvent the block. Believe me, with a forum of this size, you couldn't imagine all the membership registrations you have to go through and validate before activating those account requests. In my case, it is quite labor intensive.

I believe that certain providers were blocked for new registrations about two years ago when this forum was inundated with spam accounts - hundreds of them! - in just a few days. It was a complete nightmare! Kept us very busy...

Many of the "free" email sites allow fake users to spam, target & fraud a sthey usually are or can be set up to be UNverifed accounts
That is why many sites will block them to cut down on fraud etc... as explained

When they know of a legit member then they manually UNblock that user & all is well

I am sure they will, as you described, length of time on the board, number of posts etc... all make you legit and not a fly by night potential scammer

I think all of this is bull. Crap from this, swill from that, garbage from this is wrong. I do not use MSMail and never will. They record every thing you send. Yes, so does Yahoo but it is thousands v millions..

I still have a yahoo account here. No one has complained yet.

What you're checking doesn't really mean anything.
Even as I type this, it says I'm not here.
