Acquired a SR40

Purchased a SR40 this past Tuesday. Well I should clarify a touch - my loving wife bought it for me as an early Anniversary present.

This is my first handgun. I've grown up shooting just about any type of weapon out there - I also hunt and fish. I've just never gotten around to putting my first gun on my permit (which I've had since I was 21!).

Took it out Tuesday night and put about 45 rounds through it. Think I hit the paper about 5 times I can guarantee you that is 100% my fault :lol: . No issues with the gun and I'll have it out again a bit this weekend. Can't wait!

Best wishes with your new gun and welcome to the forum. I'd love to hear all about your experience with it, good and bad (if there is any bad.) And you're a lucky man, as I'm sure you already know .

I really enjoy my SR9 and want an SR40 ASAP, so I'd appreciate anything you have to say about the gun as you break it in and run some rounds through it. I think you'll find this forum is a top-shelf resource. Much of the advice about the SR9 applies to the SR40 for obvious reasons, but they're also different guns and I want to hear more from SR40 owners.

And I'm very glad to see another Northeastern state Ruger owner! 8)

I actually originally wanted the SR9. Walked into my LGS. There was the SR40 but no SR9's in stock. He could order one and have it within 2 days or so. But I opted to go for the SR40 anyways.

I'll definitely put up some thoughts once I have a few hundred rounds through it!

That's funny :lol: because I bought my SR9 for almost exactly the inverse reason: at the time, there was no SR40, even though one was rumored. In any case I was happy with my purchase and the gun is going to be sold to my Dad in excellent condition when I actually do buy an SR40 (or possibly an SR40c, but I'm getting out on a limb there).

Enjoy the gun, be safe and tell us everything you care to about your experience. If I had the option at the time, the SR40 would have been my first choice. Here's hoping you're as happy with your choice as I am with mine.

I love my SR40! Was hitting pop cans at about 20-25 yeards out of the box. I've fired 500 rounds of wwb and 100 rounds of a few random sd rounds and had 0 issues of any kind.

If you havet already I suggest doing a detailed take down and cleaning the trigger and striker chamber etc. I used some 5w30 synthetic oil to lube mine up and it really improved the trigger feel, a lot less stagey.

The 40 is the quite gun, you never read complaints about it!

Loving it so far. Hoping to get some solid range time in the next week or two. When I'm done I'll be posting up my thoughts!

Most likely next on my list - either the SR1911 or the SR9. So far I'm loving the SR series

I love my SR40. Highly accurate and mild recoil for a .40. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another and strongly recommend it to shooters looking to buy one or any other .40 for that matter. Ten points out of 10.

LOL that was from before it was ever fired - that sticker doesn't exist any longer
