A new coat of paint that is :-) Well since Son was on leave from that Navy Pilot stuff and Grandson was off from Texas A&M for the Holidays. The question to me was "Hey Gramps lets put a new coat of paint on "J" Bird". Well what could I say, besides I needed a break from working on the Pacer.

The SNJ was painted in 1994. The paint was still good just getting a little dull and some minor corrosion in spots. So I packed up my spray guns and headed for Corpus Christi. "Have Gun Will Travel" We removed all the panels, fairings, and remove/treated the corrosion along with sanding the old paint and primed spots.

After painting all the hardware was replaced with new CORRECT size stainless stuff.

After flying for an hour yesterday with none of the paint falling off we decided it was a good decision.

Is it as nice as New strip and paint $30K+ paint job? NO. Is it now a nice flat shinny $500.00 job? Yep sure is. :-)

I like it. I aint good at anything but do own a GCBC Citabria. You are working on a Pacer? Many years ago I had a metalised Tri Pacer. When I bought it I really didn't know what I had! It looked like the factory had done the job! I wish I had it now. It had a useful load almost double of my Citabria, was faster with the same 0320 Lyc engine. It`s a job just getting in my Citabria.

This is my friend Al Pontias that did ALL the work. (The skinny guy). It was a long term restore and he finished it almost two years ago. Long story, aren't most? That`s his Bellanca cruisemaster. He bought it when it was in the bottom of a lake and restored it!

Thanks Guys.
It is a real joy getting to work on projects with Son and Grandson. I had to wait 23 years for Son to be stationed close by. We try and spend as much time together as possible. It is also great having Grandson a 1 1/2 hour drive from us. Lets him come here on weekends so he can fly and work on the Piper Pacer project.
