That first gun is very interesting. I see it has a regular 22 Old Model Single-Six box. It looks as if the ejector rod housing is Alum. All of this says to me that it might just have a "S" in front of the trigger guard. Does it????

Also could you please take a picture of the label on the box? And what ejector rod button does it have? Small serrated or large with dimple?

Or it could just be in the "WRONG BOX" :lol: :lol: :lol: though it would certainly be nice if STREET was correct.....it would be a RARE one for sure.....most S guns have "red" frames and round gates....with the S in the serial number.....a few have them on the bottom....but as with alll things RUGER almost anything can happen.....RR.

I also hope Street is right. Worse case, someone made it even lighter by replacing the steel ejector rod housing with alum.

Standard old model box, I believe it's not original to the gun, wish it had a lightweight label affixed. Give me a about an hour or so, and I will post additional pictures.

Chris, I abbreviated XR3-RED to "RED".....most S guns have the later "RED" frame....sometimes I confuse myself :lol: :lol: :lol: RR.

I believe that is just a casting mark, one of mine that is not a 'second' has that as well. That's a flat faced ejector rod button on your tri color first seen on an all Blue lightweight # 206906.

Yep, and the ejector rod housing does appear to be aluminum.

We had a rather lengthy discussion about this sometime back, and agreed (mostly) that all the lightweights have that "whatever" in front of the trigger guard. It's apparently a "Lightweight beauty mark".

The alloy housing makes your tri color as lightweight as it could be! Your two all blue lightweights both appear to have steel housings and maybe a dimpled rod button. The alloy housing might be correct on one of them if you swapped w/the tri color depending on the serial #s. And would make the tri color more correct.

I installed an alloy housing on this all blue lightweight which is just a shooter to help offset the weight of the factory retrofitted steel cyl and converted it back from a transfer bar.
Original Grip frame put away and replaced with a spare alloy XR3 and an added lanyard ring.

Hondo44! The only Lightweights that came from the factory with an alum. ejector rod housing were the S Lightweights, which were shipped I think in 1964. I don't think that all of them had alum either. If they were fitting with a steel housing then there would be no reason to take it off. If they didn't have one then an alum. one would be installed. All regular normal time frame shipped lightweights including the all blue guns would have had the steel ejector rod housing. The alum. ejector rod housing on the Tri-color and the Regular Single-Six box, as some of the S guns were shipped in then, was the reason that I thought it may have been a S gun.

Yeah, as far as I know, the aluminum ERH hadn't been developed at the time the Lightweights were originally built. Until I figured this out, I always wonderd why Ruger didn't use the alloy ERH's on a "lightweight" version. Duh.

Yes, I agree completely, that's why since it doesn't have an S stamp that the steel housing must have been swapped out for the alloy with later flat faced button. I can think of only two reasons for swapping it: former owner wanted to make it as light as possible as I did on the all blue gun above or they cannibalized the steel housing and dimpled Button.

My guess is the latter. I only have one steel ERH. Don't see them that often around here.
