Not sure if it's AI, but i know a young girl, well really a young lady these days who suffered with slowly failing hearing since early childhood. Thanks to cochlear implants she now has the ability to hear the world around her. Plus she can now pipe her phone and music directly into her head.

Medical devices have not only kept some of us alive, but improved the life of so many more.

There is a little boy like that, they made videos of when he first started to hear. It was very interesting. He wasn't really happy when they turned it on the first time. He could only tolerate it being on in short stretches like an hour a day.

It really made you wonder what he is hearing. Almost like it's painful. Poor little kid. As he got older he was able to deal with it better.

His Mom is an angel.

It's not painful. It's disconcerting and confusing. Especially for kids really too young to understand.

The young lady I spoke of was 8 when her first implant was done. She still could hear a bit, with a hearing aid in the other.

Basically she had to learn how to hear with the new device. Second time around the process was and easier.

Still having the exterior of the implants on the side of her head presented a vanity issue. And kids can be cruel on their treatment of those they think are different.

I have a niece who was born with a lot of issues (due to the drug use of her mother while pregnant). One is that she was born deaf. Now at almost 50 years old she was fitted with some new miracle "hearing aids" So now she hears some "Noises" but still doesn't know what anyone is saying and relies totally on sign language.

She does not like them but needs them to be attentive to her very young daughter.

It's too bad some of the seriously stupid people I've known can't get an implant to bypass their brain's stupid location.
