A doctor has been charged with attempted murder after his family survived being driven over a 250ft cliff in a Tesla.
I saw two headlines this morning concerning this incident, this is one of them the other one I cannot find. It boggles my mind why the brand of car is in the headline... if it was a Ford it wouldn't have been mentioned in the headline or even in the rest of the story. The other headline just called it a Tesla driver. Am I missing something? Now, if you drive over a cliff and kill your passengers it matters what brand of car you drive?

Mentioned because that brand offers auto-pilot and full self-driving modes.
Neither were activated when the car went off the road so, was an intentional act.

Self driving Tesla accidents make the news. I think at the time it was first reported, they didn’t know if it was self driving or not. I believe this is the reason it was such a big deal about the brand of car. Of course I could be wrong.

I can't find the original article that I copied to the original thread but the first paragraph stated it was done purposefully...I think there are a lot of folks scairt of Elon Musk right now...trying to discredit him...but then what do I know...

“Now, if you drive over a cliff and kill your passengers it matters what brand of car you drive?”

For years the news would report that way if a driver of a SUV was involved in any type of accident or criminal act. As if the fact that the vehicle was a SUV had anything to do with the incident.

So it seems to me it’s not really a new issue.

"Now, if you drive over a cliff and kill your passengers it matters what brand of car you drive?"

Now Tesla can sayin their ads that you can deliberately drive your Tesla off a 250 foot cliff and survive. (SARC)

Now why did Devil's Slide strike my mind when I originally saw the news headline?

Seriously. I haven't lived in California since 1968, specifically San Franciso area and more that once drove down that coast road. It does get nasty in places, especially when the fog rolls in. That Devil's Slide was on very nasty spot and I'm surprised nothing has ever be done. I do remember back in 1957 that the coast road was closed for quite a while due to earthquake damage.

Oh BTW, I have no plans or any desire to return to the state of California.

and his defense will be..it was the Tesla fault....not the driver! or better yet. there are to many Tesla,s on the streets. Tesla driving permits will solve it, must have back ground checks on all Tesla buyers, must have Tesla buy back program. crazy people driving Tesla lives matter....just an idea.... making fun of the absurd with more absurdly...

Actually something has been done. The new Tom Lantos tunnel bypasses the worst of Devils Slide. The wreck took place at the south entrance.
the state of California.

Any bets that new cars/trucks have a "black box" that they don't tell you about and probably keep any info they glean in any wrecks mum so people don't/won't say anything?? It's probably built into the computer so that only specific people can get the info if they want it. Might it also have voice recording just like an airliner has (it's easy to hide a mic where people won't find it)?

cars for the last 10-20 years all have a black box... look under the seat of your car.... that's where it is on mine and it records everything for a period of time.... if need be Law Enforcement can get a warrant to retrieve the information. I guarantee a Tesla has a black box to the extreme.
