Nita and I were on Fishing Bridge at Yellowstone Nstional Park. I had made several exposures of a blad eagle when a moose entered the water just below us. I began shooting quickly as the old bull waded into the water and on across when I ended that roll of film. I told Nita to sit there ans watch my stuff while I went back to the car to get more film.

Dutifully she sat there, still watching the moose when she heard someone on horseback approaching behind her. The horseman seemed to stop right behind her, so she turned to see who it might be.

And was face to face with a buffalo!

And she never let out a sound nor tried to run, but waited until I got back.

Nita did everything right. She did not react to the animal, and so the animal did not react to her. Of course, a predator would have been a different story. Still, she has good instincts,
