One of my yard democrat's dropped a fawn on the edge of the planted pines just now. No pictures yet as we are also in the middle of a thunderstorm. Can't identify the doe but I can tell she is still carrying one more.

The herd usually lay in a circle, in the clear, when there is heavy rain. This evening they are milling around in the pines and getting to know the newcomer.

Fawn is that rich deep tan with brilliant white spots.

I really love this stuff.

Ain't spring great?
Our foxes are back, saw one of the young'uns last night.
Goslings are plentiful, Canada goose type.
Ducklings, little chipmunks, etc.

A week ago I went with a friend to his ranch to check on his stock. I got out of the truck to open and then close the gate, and as I walked back to the truck, suddenly something hit me in the face and then hovered there for just an instant before flying away as if injured. It was a Bobwhite quail, and I immediately knew that I had flushed her off the nest. Without moving I looked down, and right at my feet was a nest on the ground. It contained fifteen eggs.

Yesterday my friend went back to the ranch along with his wife. He told her about the nest, and as they got into the area, the momma quail went across the road followed by a horde of very tiny chicks. I wish that I had seen them. They are so amazingly small when freshly hatched.

I jumped a sleek doe this AM on our (dogs and I) walk. A beautiful creature. Luckily only one dog saw and made a small woof and ran but 10 feet at the deer. The other two were busy taking care of "business". :)

At one time The Cracker raised "orphaned" fawns. The now adult deer come in for their Bridge card meals daily. Hence....

Like hunting stories, without pics.....

need to see the new voters.

Some people can't help but see everything through black and white political glasses.

You know even David Koch, the guy that finances many republican campaigns, gives money to PBS, for the program 'Nature', in particular. :D

Dan pretty much nailed it. I call them democrats because they come by twice a day for their handout and do not do anything productive for it in return.

And jimbo, bless your heart.

No pictures yet. Right after a doe drops her fawns she takes then in the woods and hides them. For the first week or so they have very little scent. This is done to protect the fawns. She comes by twice a day and feeds them. At about two weeks they start following the doe around. When that happens I will have lots of pictures.

I might add that when people come on a fawn without a doe it is not wise to assume the fawn is orphaned. The mother doe is likely watching the goings on from a hidden spot nearby. Unless a doe is hit by car or other predator the actual orphaning of fawns is rare. When you see a fawn please leave it alone.
