I'm retired and on a quest for knowledge. (The bride says I should have started long ago).

I'm intrigued by the Ruger 44 carbines. The Model 99 (Deerfield) is the subject of my current quest. So, =>
1. Can someone provide a picture of the bolt face?
2. Has anyone compared the mod99 receiver to a Mini14 or 30 receiver? Are they similar in size/configuration?
Note - my guesstimate is that they are almost identical with differences being in how the magazine fits and the configuration of the recoil springs.

Stretch question is whether or not a mini14/30 receiver could be reconfigured to recreate a Deerfield. ? ? ?

3. The brings things back to the bolt. Has anyone compared the Deerfield bolt to a mini14/30 bolt? From the pictures I've seen they could be almost identical except of course for the bolt face.

Thanks for your critical thoughts, I'm going to have a beer and try to come up with another conundrum to share.

Welcome to the forum.

Since 99's are bringing ~$2100,,, and a mini 30 are ~$1100,,, that gives you ~$1k to get all the work done and source a barrel, going down a road that is not all that traveled.
I know it's going to make you pucker,,, but I think your money, time & frustration ahead to just step up and buy the 99.
Here is your requested pictures.
