looked at a single six today not a flat gate. that's the serial no. I was thinking ruger quit the flat gate about 1956. rugers website says this serial no. dates to 1954. couldn't buy it as it wasn't functioning correctly. im thinking I will not see this gun after it comes back from the smith. someone in house will.

A 5 digit Single-Six with # 907xx would have been made in 1958. That is after the Flatgates. However, remember, many Flatgates were returned for round gates later on, as well as an aftermarket "Premier" loading gate was installed on some.
I once found a SS with aftermarket stags, and a round gate at a gun show. It cost me $400. I swapped off the stags, sold them, dug into my parts & replaced the loading gate, and I now have a MUCH nicer, correct Flatgate.
