I came across a Tang Safety, Red Pad 7mm Magnum M77RS recently that I may be interested in. It was made in 1984, SN 78-331xx. Would you think it probably has a Wilson barrel or was Ruger making their own barrels by then?

It's in good shape mostly. Looks like it's been a hunter but only a minor scratch in the wood here and there. Metal looks good except for a dime size spot on the top of the barrel where the bluing has worn off. It would be a hunter with me too.

It wears a gloss Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x40 scope. It's ready to hunt.

Are the RS (Rings & Sights) in 7mm Mag at all rare?

Value?

Thanks...

That rifle will be a Wilson contract barrel, since Ruger began hammer forging there own barrels around 1990.
The RS rifles were roughly 10% of the M77 production, so there were not many made to begin with.

I had two rs 7mags and couldnt get either to shoot much under 2 inch at a 100 yards. down the road they went. I wouldnt even buy one unless the gunshop gave me at least a week to see if it shot.
