7mm-08 rounds

I'm new to the page so hello. Just wanted to know how anybody else
were getting their 7-08 to group with hornady 139 SSTs?

I never had luck with a 7mm-08. Either they shoot or they don't. I went to a 280 rem and have been overwhelmingly pleased with the accuracy in many weight bullets.

Colehaan32, welcome to the forum. I never used a 7mm-08. Just use the .308.

I gave the Hornady 139 gr SST's for the 7mm-08 a good run with my Ruger Hawkeye compact. My best results came with loads on the heavy side. Just don't go over the max. I top out with 43 gr of IMR 4064. Groups opeed up a bit at 43.2 gr, and that's max load in my manuals.
Next week, I'm trying a batch with H-380. A friend recommended it, and I bought a lb this Saturday.

A 7mm-08 is very close to a 308, one of the most accurate cartridges ever. If one of these won't shoot, look elsewhere.

If you have a gun that is accurate and you know how to reload for accuracy, there is very little difference between the 7/08 and the .308.

I tried some of the Hornady Superformance 139 grain and it wasn't nearly as accurate as the Nosler Trophy Grade 140gr AB. I handload the 140 BT into the same POI/group size.

I just start working with the 7mm/08. RL15 and 4064 have shown to be very accurate in my rifle.

Over the years I found that Hodgdon BLC2 was the best for 7mm/08 or .308.
A fine ball powder that was very easy to measure. A perfect load every time.

Hard to believe you can't get a 7mm-08 to shoot. I have used 4350,4320,4064,to name a few and bullets from 120gr to 150gr and all have shot extremely well in 2 77MkII's and a Remington XP-100.

Try tweaking the load recipe a bit. Vary the powder charge , play with bullet seating depth , and maybe try neck sizing only. It shouldn't be too hard to make it shoot.

If all else fails , start from scratch with a thourough cleaning and it's quite possible that your particular barrel does not like that bullet.

I see this is mostly about reloading but it's not in the reloading area so I must say that I wish someone made a 7mm-08 revolver since there is so much ammo available. From those I know that know, this is a reliable and very accurate round. Not sure why the fails.

I have never seen any 7mm-08 ammo anywhere. Some guns are lemons.

I have a remington model 7 in 7mm08. Scary accurate little gun. Best powder I have found is H414. My preferred bullet is the 140 grain ballistic tip. But have shot many including the 139 sst. In my gun the hotter I push it the tighter it shoots. No matter what bullet. Work up slow but try the outer limits and see how accuracy is. My go to load is actually well over max. But it seems safe. No pressure signs and nothing has let loose after a few hundred rounds. Ragged single holes for groups 2800 fps out of a 18" tube and dead deer out to 350 yards with no scope adjusting or holdover. Aim upper third behind the shoulder pull trigger get the knives out. Cannot think of a more perfect gun and cartridge combo.

My 7/08 loves 139 grn bullets or less. 150's or over it does not like. I was loading 139 SST's with 4064 if I remember right. Works well for me.

I don't reload but my 7-08 likes just about everything. Federal Fusions shoot scary accurate out of them.
