I have a pretty little wood stocked lightweight 77/22 K Hornet that should be illegal for varmints with just about any bullet I've tried. The spec's say this barrel is 1-14 and it checks 1-12. Anyone heard of this before? Thanks, Ken

Years ago I had a VHZ .22 Hornet that was a really good scattergun out of the box.

Had it K-ed by an outfit in Geneva Ohio IIRC and it became a reliable 1/2 MOA rifle. The only trouble I had was reloading enough of them -- every time I took it out all the rounds I had reloaded disappeared.

The K Hornet should have been the standard IMO.

Ok, problem solved. After my post and more poking around, I went out to the shop and measured the twist again, and again. The difference between 12 and 14 twist is pretty small when watching a piece of tape turn on a cleaning rod. It is a 1-14. :-)

.

I bought a .22H M-77/22 with the Target Grey bull barrel when it was first introduced, but couldn't get it to shoot accurately, and so I sold it.

Good luck with your lightweight Hornet !

I have a standard 77/22H and it shoots very well, with limited number of reloads. 10.5/296/40gr V max will shoot in the 1/2" group range and was quite effective on prarrie dogs out to 200 yards. It did shoot poorly with multiple other reloads but it shot that load well so that is what I shoot. It also shot the 45 grain Hornady Hornet bullet with 296 & 4227. One other reload of the 40 V Max and 296 powder, too hot to share, shot well but case life was very short.
I have owner several 22 Hornets over time , but no 22 K's, and all of them were picky about reloads.
