77/22 gray stainless/laminated

I just traded for a 77/22 with the 24 inch gray stainless barrel and laminated stock. I had a 77/22 with the standard 20 inch barrel.

The 20 inch barrel gun shot well but I have a 77 MKII with the 26 inch barrel in .223 and I wanted a .22 to match it.

I took the new rifle to the range Saturday and it shoots one ragged hole 5 shot groups at 25 yards. The ammo was SK subsonic HP.

This is with a 6 1/2 lb trigger pull. I ordered a Timney sear and spring like I had in the rifle I traded. At least it will be more fun to shoot. A hard trigger is not fun.

Try the CCI Velocitors out at 100 yards and I think you'll be very impressed with the gun.

I have the Timney sear and spring in all my 77/22s, its a very good upgrade for ~$30.

I have the Timney sear in my 77/22V and couldn't like it more. Brought a crisp 6# pull down to a crisp 2.5-3#, which is exactly where I like it.

Your 77/22V seems to shoot better than mine. I have yet to break 1/2" @ 50 yards with it with its favorite ammo, Federal 510s. :( My CZ kicks its ass every time. Otherwise, I love the thing.

NOBODY can tell you what ammo will shoot best or shoot well in YOUR rifle. The only thing you can do is test-shoot everything you can find. Luckily, this can be fun. :wink:

I was contact with some user and they told me the SK standar+ or midas+ is a nice ammo, other user the Wolf mt...

It's a hard rimfire but it's lovely!!!

Like Snake45 said, you can't tell what ammo will shoot best until you try several different types. Even different lot numbers within types of ammo will shoot differently sometimes.

My 10/22 likes Wolf Match ammo better than anything I have tried including the high end Eley ammo.

So far I have only tried the SK SubSonic in the 77/22. If the rain goes away this afternoon and the wind does not pick up, I will try some different ammo in the 77/22 and report back.

I've given serious thought to sanding the finish off my 77/22V (what of it that hasn't already flaked off, y'unnerstand) and seeing if I can stain it an even overall dark brown of some kind.

I don't hold much hope--I suspect the plywood glue is throughout the wood and will preclude further staining. In which case, I'd have to just paint it walnut-like brown.

What a shame Ruger never saw fit to offer that handsome rifle with an equally handsome plain walnut stock. If they had, I'd have ordered it that way to start with. :(

Mine with a Weaver V16 and Federal Gold Match ammo will shoot 1-inch groups at 100 yards all day long. Squirels assume they are safe at 50 to 100 yards to bark at me! With a range finder to adjust elevation, I can pick them off out past 150-yards with that gun!

I shoot a lot of CCI standard velocity ammo too, but Federal Gold Metal Match is what mine seems to like best.

Sorry boys, terrible news: The new Spains retailer of Ruger is a little bit crazy.... why?, the price of the Ruber k77-22-vbz on cal.22lr in the USA about $850 (+/-605€) but in Spain will be 1070€ ($1510).

That is a crazy price for that kind of rimfire, an Anschutz 64mpr cost 950€ ($1340)..... I'm surprised with that f.... decision because I will not buy that fantastic Ruger....

Buy the Anschutz 64, shoot it and be happy! It's almost guaranteed to be a good shooter, whereas with the 77/22V you take the 50-50 chance that it will be a good shooter or a lemon. (Well, not lemon, exactly, but not nearly as accurate as you wanted/hoped/thought you were paying for.)

I put an A64 action into a Remington 700 stock and it's by far the most accurate .22 rifle I own. Only thing wrong with it is it's a single-shot. If it had a magazine I prolly never would have bought the 77/22 in the first place.
