$750 to spend on SP101

I have decided on a SP101. I'm figuring 450 for the pistol and 300 to play with. I'm looking at getting an action job, sight upgrade and possibly Crimson Trace grips. Any suggestions based on experience? I have seen actions by t, Gemini and Bowen perfected sp101 advertised online but haven't seen or shot in person. Thank you. Gun will be used for home defense and camping/hiking.

Maybe a trigger job though the more I shoot mine the better the trigger gets, just buy lots of ammo.

Yeah, I'd say that if you want the lasergrips get those. Past that good holsters and some ammo are required and maybe some custom adjustable sights if you're into that. For spending more, my long term plan includes a black powder chamfer and some nice engraving. But I don't think you'll fit that in along with the lasergrips. ;)

I put a 12lb hammer spring from wolf and it made a big difference. Tried the 10 but got light strikes on a few and a few is to many. Took off the sharp edges and radius the trigger with some sandpaper. The more I shoot it, the better it becomes.

Buy the gun have leave it be. Maybe change the springs out and smooth the action yourself. The rest of that stuff is just fluff. Get a GOOD holster and equally good belt and be done with it. Laser grips...practice with the sights and become proficient and you shouldn't need a little red dot on your target. You shouldn't pull that trigger unless you can clearly recognize the target so sights will be just fine.

I have one that Teddy Jacobson did an action job on. He brought the double action down to 9 lbs. from 14. He builds self defense guns so they are sprung heavier than a target gun. Also, had the cylinder chamfered for speedloader use. As part of the action job he adds orange paint to rear of the front sight and does the rear notch in lime green. To me in daylight it picks up easier than stock. I now have a Outdoor Express tritium front on it. From what I gather Gemini offers different weight springs at the option of owner. Another place to consider is Apex Tactical in California. He is known primarily for his Smiths but does Rugers, too.

If you put laser grips on it, why did you go through the expense of the new sights? I have Crimson Trace on my 4" 32mag and don't even use the sights.

I had the sights done first then later a smoking deal popped up on a set of CT so I bought them just for grins and giggles. Sight them both in and the sights are easier to see when plinking in the daylight and the CT are nice when it is my CC gun.

With $750, I would purchase a nice SP-101 2 1/4" .357, a nice holster, and a spring kit from Wolff. The rest of the money would go towards ammo, and possibly funds for another gun.

I wouldn't bother with the laser grip, but that's just me.
