Today at the local show I was wandering around and spotted this 7 1/2" 1961 Flat top 44 Mag Blackhawk. Well, got it for a reasonable price. It shows some bluing wear and is unconverted.

Heliman, you did good nice gun, like your 1970 Midway pin, another ship my brother in law served on as well as the Enterprise, now I hear my sons ship the Nimitz is gonna be "de- commissioned" in the near future....get a bit confused where they all go to,east coast, then to Brownsville, get scrapped, ,guess too big to become a museum???
sorry, old man babble,,,again nice gun and a keeper would cleanup just nice, never held onto any of them longer barreled ones over the years and my favorite was actually a 5 1/2 incher we cut down back in the mid 80s, a clunker we rebuilt, .44 flatop ,was in a fire........... ;)

Nice! I'm glad YOU found something at a reasonable price. I went to a show yesterday and looked at a couple dozen Ruger single actions but everything was so overpriced! I didn't find anything worth even making an offer on. Things were priced well above even GB prices, and there wasn't anything that "blew up my skirt" anyway.

I thought that rear strap looked pretty straight to be a "RED". ;)

And yes, mine from the 1961/1962 period are more grey than black, particularly after some use. Makes for a little "patina".

Nice! I have a 7.5" flattop but mine has been customized a bit. It had been drilled and tapped so I got it pretty cheap (about 15 years ago). John Gallagher tig welded the holes, installed a steel XR3-RED grip frame, steel ERH, and reblued it. It needs a nicer set of grips, I need to get Zane to work on that. It's my hunting handgun if all I'm carrying is a sixgun. If carrying a rifle one of it's shorter barrel brothers goes along.
