50 Alaskan BFR

A friend's 50 Alaskan BFR has been on loan for the past couple of weeks. Jack Hunington did a great job on this cannon so I thought I'd post some photos.

Wow what a beast, how much does it weight?

4 lbs. And it launches a 525 WFN at 1,600 fps. The recoil impulse is 94 ft/lbs. How bad is that you ask? A full house 454 Casull is 43 ft/lbs. Top end 500 Maximum is 67 ft/lbs. Well, you get the idea.

Awe, come on guys. This is still pretty light stuff. How about one in 50-110? Not those wimpy downloaded '50 Alaskan' level loads, but full-tilt dinosaur slayers.

You can't apply practicality to a gun like this. You own and shoot it "just because".

Speaking of rifles though I am converting a Siamese Mauser to 50 Alaskan.

That gun is a beaut, but I want nothing to do with 94 ft-lbs of free recoil energy in a handgun. :shock:

That is right up there with the recoil you get from a .460 Weatherby Mag in an 11lb rifle (99.6 ft-lbs).....I would seriously need to wear a helmet to shoot that thing.
