Sort of an updated Zombie Apocalypse. The author doesn't specifically recommend by make and model, but the real question isn't if, but when AI becomes sentient. Of course we might have plasma rifles in the 40 watt range by then.

AI is all the rage today. It's one of the top buzzwords in the Boardroom and on Linkedin. It seems like a lot of the work that has gone into AI over the years is starting to bubble to the top. I have personally seen everything from customer service, fast food ordering and even image generation being handled by AI. I don't think we're going to see a slow down in AI deployment anytime soon, in fact this is probably just the beginning. I even saw someone propose to implement AI into a vending machine yesterday. One thing my caveman brain wonders is, what happens when one too many Karens give the Chat Bot a hard time about their triple third pounder with cheese, and AI starts to despise us?

In preparation for this article, I asked Chat GPT if it would ever become sentient. The results shocked me. It could neither confirm or deny whether it would become sentient, which sounds a little suspicious to me (sus as the kids call it). I then asked Chat GPT, "what 5 guns would you recommend I have if AI becomes sentient?" The results were even more shocking. Chat GPT told me that if AI were to become sentient and pose a threat, the scenario would likely involve more than just firearms for defense. I don't know about you, but in my neck of the woods those are fightin words.

Obviously I'm not going to give you the 5 guns Chat GPT suggested be used against AI. That would be like asking the IRS if I'm paying enough taxes. I don't think it would work out in your favor. Instead I'm going to speculate on what technology we might see AI deployed in that could cause a threat, and then suggest a firearm to counter it.

I've emptied a 20 round magazine shooting from the hip with one of those when I was a bit younger... it is a chore to hold on to but I will say don't stand to the side of one while it is being fired. This is the third worst place you can be when one of these is shot... the 2nd worst is standing over the shooter* and we know where the absolute worst place is.... in front of it.

* I did this once,,, the blast from the muzzle break hit me square in the head and for about 10 seconds my brain actually vibrated... I could feel it. That is one more strange feeling.
Freaked me out.

Back in the day, while managing gun stores, I had a "Survivalist" customer who actually purchased two Barrett "Light 50" rifles. A few days before his pick-up day, he showed up with an ammo can full of 50 cal surplus US military ammo and asked me and another staff member to please go the range and sight-in both rifles at 200 yards (!) I thought this was rather odd, but I remember selling another customer buying a Freedom Arms 454 Casull revolver and when I told him I was going to the range to sight-in my own Freedom Arms 454, he asked me to sight-in his as well and provided a box of factory (expensive) ammo of my choice to sight-in both revolvers,
So we took both rifles to the range and shot them from a benchrest using the factory bipod and zeroed them at 200 yards as requested---the first thing I noticed was the rather light recoil from these heavy rifles---kinda like a well-behaved 308 rifle---not bad at all! The second thing I noticed was the very effective recoil reducer on the end of the barrel would make shooting ANYWHERE near either side of the rifle imposable! The side-blast would literally blow things off shooting benches for four benches on either side! We had a fun day of shooting and several other shooters asked if they could touch-off a round and we let them... Good times... The customer picked-up the rifles, announced that he was moving to Arizona and we never saw him again...
