Max Prasac has an article in the new American Hunter about going after water buffalo in Argentina with a .480 Ruger that is a very interesting and informative read (as has been everything I've read that Max produced!).

Max, I went to the Cutting Edge Bullets web site, but could not find any load recommendations for using Power Pistol powder. Don't think I have seen any "recipes" for Power Pistol in the .480 elsewhere, either. This would be great to find, as I have some PP on hand, and probably won't need to load any .45ACP for quite a while. Although I am using heavier Hard Cast right now, I have shot some big hogs with 300gr Barnes "Buster" copper solids out of my suppressed .44 mag with very impressive results - so I like the idea of the Cutting Edge bullet, except maybe for the price.

In my opinion, the article is just the sort of thing Ruger needs to see to know the .480 is appreciated by a bunch of us!

Thanks guys!

I would be more than happy to share the load data I have on Power Pistol.

I sure wish Ruger would reintroduce the .480 - especially if they would offer it in a Blackhawk of any persuasion! I don't expect that will ever happen, though.

Uh, they did. The .480 SRH is alive and well. The one I have is one of the most accurate revolvers I have ever had the pleasure of laying hands upon.

Mike, check your PMs.

The .480 Super Redhawk is a current catalog item and Davidson's has a bunch in stock.

Mine is from the 1971 production, and I like it a lot. Cylinders are a bit "tight", but I've been using hard cast and crimping with a collet die Lee made for me and it works just fine. No problems with factory loads, except for somewhat difficult extraction with the Hornady 400gr XTP's. I have a newer cylinder I may put in, or maybe ream the one I have a bit, but for now the Lee die gets the job done. l'd like a .480 SBH (from Ruger) also, but the Super Redhawk is a fine gun.

Mike,

A '71?

*****************

I sure like my 480 and the target grey suits me just fine.

I traded a 9.5" .44 SRH for this 7.5" TG .480 I have now and sometimes, I'd like a 9.5" .480 to go along with the current one.

But I am pretty pleased to have what I ended up already.

Mold wise, I bought the RCBS 400 gr. first and later rounded up a Mihec with pins and everything! I have cast with the RCBS but not gotten to the Mihec yet.

I am savior it though!

Mine is Target Grey, also, from the first year of production, I believe. Maybe '91 instead of '71? Also a 7.5" barrel. I had a chance to buy one with a 9.5" barrel recently, thought hard about it, but ended up buying the .44 Special Flat top instead. Glad I did, but will keep an eye out for another 9.5" .480. I'm loading 375gr and 410gr Hard Cast. Been keeping them around 1000fps, ready to move "up" a bit! Great gun, great cartridge!

The first one was made available in 2001.......that is when I got my first one. Glad I did!

BLACKHAWK, not Redhawk.

When you say "reintroduce the .480" you imply that you wish they would bring it back. Bringing it back means reintroducing it in the only form they have produced a .480 and that is the SRH.

That is why I said what I said. I too wish the .480 would make its way into the Blackhawk line.

That might be what you meant but it's not what you wrote.

One of my Sister in laws is retired from the criminal justice system.

I first showed her my .480 without telling her what it was ...... she assumed it was another .44.

I handed her a .44 cartridge and told her what it was and suggested she slide one into the chamber ....... she did .............

.......... it fell right through to the floor and for a split second she thought she'd damaged something ........

I started laughing and told her what she was really holding .......... then I had a rather steamed red head to contend with.

I offered to let her shoot it ............. she's rather good with her Gold Cup .... she declined ......

I would have set her up with a load with Trail Boss and explained that ....... she still would not bite.

Her husband, also retired from CJ, rather liked the .480 in all forms of ammo ....... I get the impression that if he hung onto it too long ...........

.......... I might have a hard time getting it back!
