Anyone have experience with shooting 45lc thru the 2 1/2" Alaskan 454 ? How is accuracy? What 45 lc load is good in this gun?

I have shot 45 Colt through my 454s. However, it is strongly NOT recommended. There can build up a lead ring (like 38s in a 357) and, at 454 pressures, that can be VERY dangerous. Mine have all been 5-shots and I cleaned them religiously afterwards.

If I want something in-between, I use "RUGER ONLY" loads in my OM Blackhawk or Vaquero.

See "Cartridges of the World" for more info.

Which can, and should be cleaned up prior to shooting a Casull cartridge, akin to shooting 38's in a 357. There is no specific 45 Colt load that would be consistantly better than another in the long chamber so one would have to experiment. Better would be to download 454 brass with a faster powder like Titegroup, Unique, HS-6, etc, if less recoil is desired.

^^^^ Good answer. Better than shooting 45 Colt in a 454 Casull.

HS-6 is a good powder for reduced recoil loads in the 454 Casull.
