I've heard some guys coat the inside of the rings with a thin coat of rubber cement...but don't know if this is actually a good idea or not. Opinions? Any other tips?
I did not add anything to the rings on my .454 Super RH but I did mount the rings and spend quite a while lapping the bottom half of them. The top does not need to be lapped as it will flex and fit by itself. All the Ruger rings I have seen needed lapping. I try for around 80% contact on the bottom half at least. Tighten the screws in a criss cross pattern and try to keep the gap equal on both sides. Do not over tighten the screws as you can bend the scope tube. Lacking a torque wrench I hold the Allen wrench by the short end and tighten as tight as I can. Nothing moved with some STOUT! loads. Works for me.YMMV.

I have a regular lapping kit from Brownell. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid%3D15102/guntechdetail/Sinclair-Scope-Ring-Lapping-Kits- There are less expensive ones though. Here is one from Possum Hollow that will do as well. http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/677200/possum-hollow-scope-ring-alignment-and-lapping-tool-1
If you are not going to be doing a bunch. See instruction vid. on the first one.
