I saw one of these in my local gun shop.I never owned one of these.Can anyone tell me about these? Thanks.I will just use this for target shooting.

Just my opinion, but if you want it for target shooting wouldn't you be better off with a Blackhawk which has adjustable sights?

Got a full sized Stainless Blackhawk, Brenda Lee has one of the stainless flattops. Both with sights. Both in .45 Colt. We own multiple revolvers but these are our carry guns whenever we feel the need to have something to carry. (as in critters that can hurt or critters that are good to eat)

I really like the full sized Blackhawk in 4 5/8 barrel. Since I shoot medium loads and very heavy loads, the adjustable sights are a must.

Lots of fun! Wonderful revolvers. As it is fixed sight, you will need to find a load that shoots accurately at the velocity you want to shoot. Then adjust front sight by filing to bring up to POA and your good to go! Sure like mine (both original Vaquero and New Vaquero) . Was just out shooting my New Vaquero today in .45 Colt of course :) . I enjoy the blued much better than Stainless too.

The downside is sometimes they don't shoot horizontally to POA. Mine was off by more than 1" at 15 Yards. Had the barrel turned by a local gunsmith and all is well. Then filed down the front sight and it's dead on at 25 Yards with a 250g or 255g bullet travelling around 1000fps. Just right for me. I have three Vaqueros (new and original) and all were not set properly.

I have two New Vaquero Bisleys in 45LC that I use for Cowboy Action shooting and they are great fun! If only I could shoot as well as the guns can. ;-P

Not knowing your situation, I'd like to make my usual suggestion for a convertable. They are not common in the New Vaquero's (which are great revolvers), the Blackhawk's are standard catalog items. The .45 ACP ammo is easier to find, and quite a bit cheaper if you don't reload, and the .45 Colt is many things in different platforms, but is pretty pricy to plink with if factory ammo used.

An ultimately practical. Use for some target shooting and then strap on the hip for hiking, fishing, camping, and hunting. The .45 Colt has been on the job since 1873 and doing a yeoman's job since then ... even to Africa for work over there on the big 'uns. Just can't get any better in my opinion.... and it is my opinion :) . Of course that and a .22 just rounds out the whole spectrum.

Firstly, inspect the frame to see whether it is engraved "Ruger Vaquero" or Ruger New Model Vaquero".
Both are modern representations of the Colt single action army Model P, but with a more robust and reliable fire control mechanism and (for my old eyes) a better set of sights. But the older Vaquero is stronger and heavier, similar to the Blackhawk; while the New Model Vaquero (2005 to present) is lighter and more similar to the Colt in look and feel. The new model, like the Colt, should be restricted to standard pressure loads only. It is very popular in cowboy shooting sports.

hmmm... I just looked mine over and no where does it say "Ruger New Model Vaquero" . It simply says "Ruger New Vaquero" . Again both the Vaquero and New Vaquero are 'New Model' revolvers ;) .
