That's a very fair buy for the box AND manuel.
Yes,, us collectors who put on these nice displays do realize it's easier to find the guns than some of the old boxes. So,, theduke308,, you need to understand,, MANY of us hunt for years to get a box for a gun to put on display.
Good for you Mike!

Nice one Mike!! I would have been happy to pay that price for that box if I would have seen it first. Congrats.

$525 for a box??? Are you guys nuts?

You don't even wanna know how high boxes in that condition can go! Rare ones will go for thousands of dollars... Supply & demand you know. The supply is what it is and there will never be any more. What does a museum pay for a priceless piece of paper with some dead person's scribbling on it for instance?

Just think of collectors as individual & independent private museum curators who scour every possible avenue for items just like this one. And collectors do not get funded by, or receive grants from anyone! Attend a show sometime and you'll see why these types of transactions are important to people with a passion to preserve & share this history! :)

Hey Russ, I have a few of these in the MAN CAVE    One I received from Gary was mint in the split top shipper and it also contained the gun....the shipper has a RAILWAY sticker on the back    has all the paper including the invoice from Kliens Sporting Goods in IL.....almost as nice as Mikes #26 package only slightly higher number (738) but it makes me HAPPY.....Mike and myself bid on a late shipped gun once in the box with the shipper.....when the gun showed up it had the usual wear but the box and shipper had been stored in the closet since new.....I don't know if you could find a nicer box anywhere...sure I would have liked to own this box but it went to a good home :D :D :D ya can't own them all....BUT you can TRY    RR.

Yes-we are saving landfills from having all this cardboard!
And If I remember correctly-the box that duck decoys came in from Sears in 1909 is worth more than the wood decoy...,
if I were not selling I would have bought that box--oh yes,
I found two more of those Ruger soft sided gun cases--about 11  8) :) 5 shipped

Consider it from this viewpoint... You have a gun that's worth $800. You now buy the appropriate box for $500. As a complete package it's worth $1800. When that's for rare gun you have to understand that the box is even rarer as many folks did not keep the boxes in good condition if at all. All supply and demand.
Wanna really see what can command, watch the lightweight Single Six box on ebay.

I gonna try and help you all from sticker shock on boxes--I went and put on three for no more than 60 bucks 8) max for one and thats got a cardboard shipper...
Helps our landfills out---as soon as the lightweight box gets to 1000-RR will jump in -I am sure...

The very first guy that answered the ad bought it!!! Other people said they would have bought it. So!!! It looks as if the price was too low. I had an old gun trader tell me that if you put a price on a gun and it sells then you had too low a price on it. If it doesn't sell then you have it priced to high. It works the same for boxes.

As for being crazy for paying $525 for a box. Do you think he will have any trouble getting his money back it he decides to sell it. Do you think he could get more for it. In my opinion he is only crazy if he has no chance to get his money back. Oh yes how long did it take Jussbad to sell this box. He sure got his money back quick and I bet he made a few bucks on the deal. So far the only people that are crazy are the ones that will not put the money out to buy the rare stuff, because that is what will go up in the future the most. That is what will sell the quickest and bring the most profit.

Great box.... Wish I seen it first. Good catch Mike. :)

RugerHound if ya wanna play with the big dogs you need to lift your leg a little higher

I'd have lifted that leg plenty high if I'd seen it first! :) I was only whining that I didn't see it before Mike did!

And it's not always about "getting your money back". Sometimes it's just about wanting something because you want it. If you want it bad enough to pay the asking price, who's to say you made a mistake. It's your money, your choice.

I have bought some things that I thought were priced a little high, but I wanted them "just because" and realized I'd not likely find them any cheaper, so I just bit the bullet and paid. And ya know what . . . I haven't lost a moment's sleep over any of them.

The ones I have had regrets over were the ones I wanted, but procrastinated until the opportunity was gone.

JMHO
:) ;) :)

I think some people have more money than they know what to do with!!!! Wish I was that lucky, if only I could invent a time machine and go back and get a couple hundred of these rare boxes, I would be rich

You have to realize that many of us are collectors, and we do displays. Or we just like having a complete package in how a gun was shipped. Add in the popularity factor of some guns, how few boxes survived, and especially good condition ones, it's not hard to see why the prices are up there.
As for having more money than they know what to do with,,, it's like this. Priorities.
We could be spending it on wasteful things that give us momentary pleasure, (booze, tobacco, wild women, etc) or instead choose to enjoy our hobby & invest in quality items that only go up in value.
My family used to have a convienence store. Weekly I saw MANY regulars come in & buy beer, cig's etc, and they never seemed to be able to get ahead, or enjoy a good hobby. These same people get wasted on the abuse of their choice all the time. I learned at a young age, if I wanted to enjoy nice things, I had to do without other things. I chose to not indulge in tobacco, drugs, excessive alcohol, etc. I have money to enjoy my Rugers & shooting.
Priorities.

Well said Ty! Had I spent a little more time in my youth chasing Rugers instead of those wild women, tobacco & booze, I'd have a LOT more equity in my safe right now! :D Ahh well...It ain't over 'till it's over!
