44 Carbine question

My current .44 mag load is 22grn of 296 with 240 XTPs. This is so I can run the same load in my 1894 Marlin as my Ruger revolvers. So a while ago I picked up a .44 Carbine made in '69. I can't seem to find any load data for it and want to know if my current load is safe for it.

I don't know, but I think it would be a fair assumption that any handload that is loaded to equal pressure levels of factory ammunition would be just fine.

Hodgdon has tons of reloading data available with pressure data on-line, and SAAMI has the pressure standards available on-line also. 8)

Hornady's 9th Edition lists 19.8gr to 25.0gr of 296 with their #44200 240gr HP-XTP.
The test firearm was a was an 18" 1:38" twist Ruger Carbine.

Is that about same as in a Contender? I would think a TC Contender would be close to a rifle.

That should be fine in the Carbine. The maximum is 24.0gr with that powder and bullet. If it cycles the action you are all set.

well now I feal dumb, I've got the Horanady 8th, 9th & 10th and didn't see the carbine listed, and my 9th has about 20 book marks sticking out of it. Thanks guys.
This isn't a rifle i want test the limits on, there aren't enough of them around

I think I'd use revolver data, as in factory equivalent or less as the carbine in question seems to be a Ruger semi-auto (Deerslayer?).

Every manual I have (about eight) show the same charge weight for handguns and rifles in .44 Mag. I have a 1973 vintage .44 Carbine and it loves just below max loads of both H110 and Lil Gun. It’s a family heirloom and I don’t want to hurt it given the lack of parts these days, but no need to baby a gun that loves to shoot and can handle it.
