Has anyone been able to figure out how many 44-40 Vaqueros were produced during its run? Is it even possible? Thanks

According to the RENE guide;
BNV-40I 900
BNV-405I 1200
BNV-406 (Friends of the NRA Edition,) 550
BNV-407I 320
KBNV-40I 1800
KBNV-405I 1050
KBNV-407I 385
That totals about 6205 guns made in the 44-40 cal Vaqueros.

"Contender",
Those are only the 44-40s with the factory (fake) Ivory grips - hence the "I" in the model number.

It is estimated that the 44-40s are about 10% of Vaquero porduction. Total numbers are a bit higher than your post but still low compared to total production. I would still say collectable.

Ok, now what do the various models go for? Got a 7 1/2" blued one that's probably gonna leave.

"Preacher",
I'm just not seeing the premium on the 44-40s that ought to be there - pretty much going for what other Vaqueros are going for. Is yours stainless or blued /CCH?

Where in "South - Central" Pa. are you? I'll be in Somerset, Pa. around the time of the Harrisburg show, March 20 & 21.

2nd question first: with the rise of Cowboy Action Shooting the .44-40 ammo is NOT scarce.

Now, since it's a Ruger made .44-40 it uses a "standard" .44 Revolver barrel, i.e. .44 Special/.44 Mag and not the smaller bored .44-40 design. If one "fits" a .44 Special and/or .44 mag cylinder then those cartridges can also be utilized.

Large Frame Vaquero, of course, and NOT the mid sized New Vaquero, even though they weren't made in .44..........I must post this caution anyway.
