I saw Bob Wright's 45 in the classifieds. I didn't onow the NV came with the CCH frame. Did they make these in 357?

Joe,
Yep. The early New Vaqueros in both .45 Colt and .357 came with pseudo case coloring. I don't remember it being a particularly durable finish.

Best Regards,

My big Vaquero'sCCH wasnt real durable but was good enough for what it was. I liked it. I like the smaller frame but have always liked the CCH look.

it is NOT "color cased hardened," but simply "case colored", as said above more like an inked process and not that durable....careful what chemicals you clean your gun with and how hard you rub it n the process..... 8)

Oh yea. I'm aware.

But thanks

Y'all make the color cased finish Ruger used to be as delicate as lace undies. It is not. Here is my original Vaquero ca. 1996, and having just under 3,000 rounds fired through it:

The gun has not been babied. I clean it after every outing using Hoppe's No. 9 and my 50/50 mix motor oil/machine oil. Admittedly, it has not been holster carried, but my cleaning methods sure haven't hurt it any.

The 357 i had was good lookin! But wasnt crazy about the heft of the big frame 357.

Thats a nice one too, Mr. Bob.

Agree with you there, Joe! The old Three Screw .357, and the New Vaquero, are much better suited to the .357 Magnum than current New Models.

as adp and I have noted it was not a durable finish in all too many cases we've seen some the owners took the finish right off, improper cleaning was my guess, anyway must not have been too good as the factory NO longer offers it.................and we have redone ( blued) a few for people not that long ago, mainly the original Vaqueros........

and yes, if properly handle and cared for I have seen many, many more, look just fine...........

I have seen very few in 357 maybe three in the last three years, while looking for these three 45s. I have not had any issues with the color coming off as of yet.

The grips are from the Ruger store and they are called NV smooth Rosewood. They vary well may be Rosewood but it is many thin panels lamented together. I believe the grips that come with the NV are the same thing with a little different medallion.
