OK, this is some data for my fellow .357 aficionados here on RF. Hope some of you find this useful.
Revolver used is the S&W 627 with 5" barrel
Rifle Marlin 1894CS with 18 1/2" barrel.
Remington R357M1 (125 grain SJHP) advertised velocity is 1450
From the revolver: 1455/1462/1454/1465/1432 Avg: 1454 ME: 590 P=.811
From the Rifle: 2127/2080/2047/2107/2079 Avg: 2088 ME: 1216 P=1.17
Double Tap 158 grain Speer Gold Dot advertised at 1400 from 4" barrel and 1500 from 6"
From the revolver: 1210/1289/1249/1241/1213 Avg: 1240 ME: 542 P=.874
From the Rifle: Error/1827/1792/1827/1775 Avg: 1805 ME: 1149 P= 1.27
Fiocci 142 grain truncated cone (I did NOT load these nose to primer in the rifle!!!)
From the revolver 1227/1249/1247/1240/1273 Avg: 1247 ME: 492 P=,790
From the Rifle: 1564/1581/1574/1585/1559 Avg: 1573 ME: 784 P=.997
Remington fodder seems to be pretty darn close to advertised velocities. The double tap ammo seems to have it's velocities just a tad bit over-stated on the box. That being said, it looks like it could be a viable short range hunting option on medium size game.
After Christmas, I think I'll mix up some ballistics gel with some bone in it and see what the penetration and "splatter factor" is on these rounds.
