Loaded both 158gr SWC and 148gr DEWC's with 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 Win231 in. .357 cases.

In both weight bullets 4.5gr shot the most accurately at 25yds from a semi-rest.

148gr w/4.5 averaged 864pfs

Next step it to shoot 50yd silhouettes with it.

Looks like the barrel is shot out. If you don't want it anymore that's understandable. I don't shoot very well so I would not even notice the terrible accuracy.....hint hint.

I just couldn't bring myself to saddle you with such a burden. Beside, you already have plenty of boat anchors of your own. :)

Yep that 4.5gr load of HP-38/W231 is a good one with a 158gr bullet. I usually bump up to 5.0gr just because I like a little more oooph. :D

btw That barrel on your gun is too short to shoot accurately and I don't have a boat anchor yet. :D

Perfect thread at the perfect time.

I was just prepping brass for a cast 148 DEWC load, but I didn't want to waste any of my last pound of Universal.

I think I'll burn up some HP38 (W231) instead, now that I have some good data. 4.5/864 fps sounds perfect for my 4" GP100.

That's a gorgeous Python.

Start with 3.4g HP38 under that 148g.

There is plenty of room for working upward, but many find best accuracy with the lower charge weights.

Nice shootin' Doc, and a great lookin' Colt. I've got it's understudy, a 4" bbl'd. Diamondback in .22 lr. BTW, how'd you get my "go-to" load for .357 practice ammunition? Best Regards, Rod

thanks

got there by trial and lots of error

Nice shooting doc and what a beautiful Python there. Sweet!

Out of curiosity, are you loading the 148gr dewc to be flush with the case or to the same length as the 158gr swc? Any crimp? Just trying to edumacate myself.

Thanks again for the post.

That's a good looking bullet.

Falcon Bullet is a new company, and they haven't been overwhelmed with orders yet.

They usually ship within 2 or 3 days.

Ahhh. The ol' button nose wadcutter!

4.5 of W231/HP38 works well with my DEWC's from Penn as well. A nice clean, accurate load with just the right amount of power.
