SP-101 or Single Seven? The Single Seven really calls to me for a hiking the woods gun.

Anyone have a source for 5 1/2 barrel Single Sevens?

My Speer 115s ran at 1300 fps from the SP101; 1500 fps from the 4-5/8" Single 7.

Something about the Single Seven is compelling. The first pistol I bought when I turned of age was a Single Six as that is what I grew up with.

I have a 3" SP-101 (in .327) and a 5.5" Single Seven. The 5.5" is easy to shoot and was my choice between all the barrel lengths available. My first thought when I fired the Single Seven for the first time was " THIS is the gun that Ruger should have led off with when introducing the .327 round!"

For a woods gun the Single Seven would be perfect, IMHO.

I have a SP-101 in 32 H&R, a Blackhawk in 327, a Buckeye convertible with a 327 cylinder, and a Single-Seven with the 7-1/2" bbl.
If I were to try & choose from your two choices,,, I'd go after the Single-Seven,,,,,,, quickly!

I have both plus the LCR. That's the way I went. If I could only keep one it would be the Single Seven. I'm really liking the .327 round. Had to buy a new set of dies because the dillon 32H&R dies wouldn't work. It actually worked out better that way. Now I just have to change tool heads between .32H&R and .327

Nope. A lot of people will agree with you (including me) that a lever gun in .327 would be great. Marlin used to produce a .32 H&R lever gun, the 1894CB, that has been successfully re-chambered to .327 Fed Mag. It's probably the best way to make a .327 lever gun for yourself.

I've not received the hankering for any .32, but if I was to get the calling, I think a .32 on the Single Six (7) platform could be the cats meow...

The SP101 is already a compromise. When you compromise it further by using a little bitty cartridge or caliber, it defeats most of its usefulness. But the .327 in a shootable gun like a Single Six (can't force myself to say Single Seven), could make for a neat little trail gun. :mrgreen:

I would add another check in the Single Seven column. I have all 3 of the barrels lengths in this model but I have only fired the 5.5" so far. It is a sweet shooter.

I also have the SP101 in 32 H&R mag (3") and the 327 (3") and the new 4" with the fiber optic front sight. I think the 4" would make a good trail gun and offers faster reloads with a speedloader. I also bought the LCR in 327 and if they made this with a 3" barrel (or 4"!!!!!!), it would make a good "packer" as well. :wink:

The 32's are tons of fun to shoot and the self-defense loads are impressive. Reloading is pretty simple and can be very economical with cast bullets.

Bud's or Ky Gun Co. may still have Single 7's available. GunBroker may have one pop up also.

Wish I could help. Mine came from Lipsey's awhile back now. Fun little gun. However I do wish it was just a classic Single 'Six' .32 H&R mag... But we get by as .32 anything is hard to come by. All I shoot out of it is .32 H&R Mag... a 115g bullet at around 1088fps.

I don't know why, but I always get the 4-5/8" single action. I just love how the shorties look. Balance is nice, too. In fact, my favorite single action is a 3-3/4" Montado with a birdshead gripframe on it. Talk about balance.

Don't look too long. These are getting harder to find. 8)
