327 and 32 mag loads with red dot powder

I am looking for some loads for the 327 mag and 32 mag using red dot powder, 115 to 120 grain cast. Anyone use red dot out there? I am aware these will not be top end loads, but I got a lot of red dot. Thanks, in advance Randy.

Six gunner , I have shot a lot of Red Dot in the .327 mag. Under both the Lyman 311008 and commercial cast 115 gr. cast bullets. Using CCI 500 primers gave the best results over the chronograph. 3.5 grains gives 948 fps. From my 4 5/8" single seven and 953 fps from my 7 1/2" single seven. Only 5 fps difference in the two barrel lengths. Red Dot must be almost all burned up in the shorter barrel.I have gotten verrrrry good accuracy from the Lyman 311008 cast of 50/50 WW and pure lead and sized to .314". 14 shots into just a little over 1" at 45' rested is not uncommon with the 7 1/2" gun with the 5 1/2" and 4 5/8" guns giving almost as good. I have all three barrel lengths with the 7 1/2" being my favorite.
I have since been shooting the same bullet over 4 gr. Red Dot with the same accuracy but have not chronographed that load but expect it to give somewhere in the 25-50 fps more velocity range. Like shooting a .22 mag. Fun!!!

I hope so! 45" is a bit less than 4' :D . Kidding aside, I am sure you either meant feet ... or maybe yards?... Which? I've used 3.2g under 100g RN in .32 H&R Mag. Worked ok. Like True Blue under the 100g bullet better though.

Yes that should have been (') feet :oops: . I often use that distance not because that is a normal shooting distance but because, at the range where I shoot, there is a flat place where the target stand does not wobble around when there is a breeze.

Only if you want reduced velocity at high pressures. Red Dot's burn rate is a little fast for optimum results. Doesn't mean one can't get fine accuracy if top velocity isn't a concern...

I load the 32H&R with 3.0gr of Red Dot under the 115gr RNFP bullets cast from wheelweights. IT has been a good plinking load.

I have not loaded it in 327. Trying Longshot, Lil Gun and CFE when I can get time to load some.

John Taffin told me he uses 3.5 grains with a 100 grain cast bullet for the 327FM. he said it will get 1,000 FPS in his 7 1/2" single seven and gives tight groups.

in Handloader no. 294 Brian Pearce has tons of loads for the 327FM. he suggests using 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 grains of red dot with a 115 grain RNFP. FPS ranges from 1,049 to 1,229.
